Hi Peet

If you like this grouping of personnel, there are two releases culled from a live evening in Europe with Stan, Kenny, Victor and, on this night, Rufus Reid on bass.  Both are recommended.

Good listening'

Thanks ewemon. Good to know. I feel pretty much the same about his music after Hold Out, though I am guilty of owning Lawyers In Love and Lives In The Balance.

Joe and Ewen

I concede to you both having more knowledge and experience with JB catalogue (I just had to look-up his discography to confirm sequence of releases).  I have owned at one time The Pretender, Running on Empty, and Late For The Sky and currently have Lawyers In Love, Greatest Hits, the two Solo Acoustic releases and access to all the others at Spotify, of which I have listened to Looking East, The New Ride Home and the current release Standing In The Breach.

I like the "West Coast" sound that I lump JB into with the Eagles, JD Souther, and others.  Listening frequency over the years has ebbed and flowed but I have always enjoyed the easy-going, relaxing, light rock-pop sound of this style.  Some get played way more than others but not because I dislike any of them, and I admit there is so much stuff to check-out in music we tend to drift to areas and artists we find more interesting or likable at any given time.

So, to me, I enjoy coming back to JB with some regularity and the new release, after a couple listens, reminds me very much of Lawyers In Love and the first track, "The Birds Of St. Marks", has some wonderful jingle-jangle Rickenbaker playing by someone (I miss liner notes).

My divergent take on this at this moment is at least partly due to currently being in one of the flows where I am finding JB particularly interesting.

As always, thanks to both of you for your comments on this thread and exposing me to the music you each enjoy.  I have playlist folders where I store your suggestions until I have time to investigate them.

I do that with 6 or 8 frequent posters here and have never enjoyed music more than in the past ten years with contributors at this forum.

best regards

Great collection of early stuff

My second listen to this, and it's really starting to grow on me. More melodic and less extreme than his last two albums:

Good stuff! I used to to really enjoy The Cars. I must drag out and play some of their albums again.

Because I haven't listened to this in quite a while it reminds me of a very pleasant month or so in Mexico way back when....

Sterophonics, Performance and Cocktails, bitter sweet for me this album because it reminds me of a good friend who passed away in tragic circumstances.  I remember him driving us down to London to watch them and Aerosmith and a few others at Wembley playing this album full blast all the way.  A great day and a good mate much missed
