There couldn't be much more contrast from Bach to John Otway & Wild Willy Barrett on original vinyl from 1976. Some fantastic guitar from Wild Willy Barrett.

Their performance of "Really Free" on The Old Grey Whistle Test" was something else! Wish I had a copy of that.

This one may be from The Scottish Company – goes outside, spins around three times, spits, curses, and then knocks to be allowed back in – but it sounds totally gorgeous in 24/192

I have both of these albums on original vinyl, but on this occasion listening to the re-mastered double CD version streamed (in FLAC) from my NAS.

Brings back many memories from the 70s!

Pretty decent sound quality (an improvement on the original CDs) although I wouldn't have paid full price for them. Qobuz were offering a pretty amazing deal of around 23 Euros for the lot. Now that was well worth the money and I would highly recommend it if the offer is still on.

Now listening to something from well before even my time. Hi-res download (FLAC 24 bit 88.2 KHz) version of "Sam Cooke - Portrait of a Legend",

Pretty good sound quality for something of that era.

That's annoying and frustrating as hell for those of us who can't be bothered with Vinyl. Of course, CDs can easily better the DR of vinyl, but far too often, this is not the case due to ridiculous production and mastering decisions.

Next in what has been an even more eclectic (in a music sense) day for me today than usual:

Standard res FLAC stream from my NAS of the Moody Blues "Every good boy deserves favour"

Shortly to be followed by:

I have quite a few Kinks albums, but "Muswell Hillbillies" seems to be the one I choose to play most of the time.

Band Of Horses "Acoustic At The Ryman"

Brandi Carlile "Give Up The Ghost"

Maybe not my favourite Ten Years After album (that would probably be "Rock & Roll Music to the World" or "Cricklewood Green"), but this hi-res download from Qobuz is excellent.

Miles Davis - In A Silent Way

Hawkwind  - P.X.R.5 -  cd with 10 bonus tracks from 'The New Worlds Fair' (Michael Moorcock and the Deep Fix.

An album that sounds better each time I hear it, which is going it some 'cos that's been about 25 + years since I first bought it.

Death Cab For Cutie "Narrow Stairs"

and now for something completely different

Prince - The Very Best Of Prince

Dismissed by the Band themselves these days, but the first Floyd album I bought when still at school and still one of my favourites (possibly my favourite) to this day. On my 3rd vinyl copy and also have on CD:

'Atom Heart Mother' - just in case there is anyone out there who doesn't already know. This album seemed magical at the time and for me this feeling hasn't been dulled by time.
