Do yourself a favour and try and get a copy of the Japanese recent SHM cd as it has fantastic sq and a huge Dynamic Range.
ewemon thanks for that. I was just about to ask BigH what he thought of the re-master. Are you permitted to point me toward where I could get the Japanese SHM?
Steve pop over to cd japan (join the words together) and scroll down look for the cat no UICY 75769.
It is the first disc on the 5th line.
One word of advice when you buy from cd japan always choose the put in a plain envelope option.
Can save you a lot of money.
Thanks ewemon great knowledge and advice.
Thanks from me too, ewemon. I've just ordered one. cdjapan is new one on me. Looks to have some interesting stuff on there.
I sometimes also order from Amazon in Japan and also HMV there. Hope you remembered to choose the plain envelope option otherwise the mighty customs lads may get you.
The thing about a lot of Japanese pressings is that they are limited edition and once they are gone they can be gone for good. However they have taken to re-issuing titles after a certain period of time but that is not guaranteed.
The SHM SACD of Supertramp Breakfast in America is reckoned to be the best sounding version around and it sold out quick. It may get another release next year or may not. Prices for that disc tend now to be in the high 60'S+.
I'd love to share what I'm listening however I cannot see how to insert a picture...I click on the image icon and I have the option to put an URL...what should I do? Thank you in advance!
I may be able to help on a Mac - find the album cover at amazon or wherever, with the cursor on the cover, control/click (same time)and you will get a drop down, scroll toward bottom and choose copy image address.
come to the thread and click post replay, click the icon to the left of the smiley, paste (command key/"v" key same time) the image address into the top URL line, click in the preview window and the image should appear. Click "insert" and the image should show in the reply window, add any remarks and click Submit Reply.
Haven't played that one in a long time.
Haven't played that one in a long time.
From the same humble corners as BB's and also a huge talent as you know Ewe. Pure, unadulterated Blues.
Has to be one of the worst covers I have ever seen and that is saying something. Music in parts ain't bad though.
Bill Evans
"You Must Believe In Spring"
Suzanne Vega, Solitude Standing, flac streamed to Hugo, because after two weeks of very boring jury service I need something nice and chilled with my bacardi!
CD - Alia Vox 2014 : )
Enregistrement réalisé dans la Collégiale du Château de Cardon,
Catalogne, en décembre 1993
A 35 strong member band if i've counted them all in correctly,
quite a large outfit for a Jordi Savall ensemble.
Slightly formal but generally entertaining and very often rather invigorating.
Debs
Rush, Moving Pictures, 24 bit flac streamed to Hugo, sounds utterly superb
Bill Evans
"You Must Believe In Spring"
The only jazz record I can listen to almost indefinitely. In the end, when 95% of 'jazz' is academic boredom, this is pure music and joy.
Or perhaps sadness.
Paul McCartney. McCartney. On original Apple vinyl from 1970. Somewhat of a potpourri of music. McCartney's expression of liberation from his former band.
Clifton Chenier. Boogie and Zydeco. On Sonet vinyl from 1979. The UK release of the 1977 US LP. An enjoyable departure from my typical listening.
Lively and youthful Ozawa/CSO's Lutoslawski's Concerto for Orchestra.
Highly animated taking on more like a Lenny Bernstein style. It does not work on all but oddly, it's quite exciting to listen to on this program. This is like he's adding a dash of bright primary splash of paint here and there on the highly monochromatic tune.
No quarter - a delight in the new version
It's been a while since I listened to Boult's Lt. Kije.
It certainly isn’t sophisticated or vivid as Reiner set but it is a friendly likable performance. There isn’t much of irony coming through and undoubtedly dated in presentation now.
