The op. 20 quartets: IMO the highlight of all Haydn's quartets, but sadly not the strongest performances from the Angeles String Quartet in this box.

We missed the group's concert in Avignon in the summer, but there's now this excellent live album to make up for it. The weather in Avignon in July was rather better than Emsworth in November though.

The Steve Miller Band. Brave New World. On vinyl from 1969. Continuing my Steve Miller listening session from last evening with his third LP.

Steve Miller Band. Living In The 20th Century. On promo vinyl from 1986. Jumping ahead 17 years to a much more commercial, highly polished sounding SM. There's a "Wally" in the deadwax so you know the sonics are tight, but I prefer the earlier, bluesier Miller.

"Regardless of length, every bit of this moody and often-melancholic set feels complete. This is a jazz of evaporation; not the work of a trio but the feeling of another climate."

The Stooges-Raw Power on vinyl.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. You're Gonna Get It. On vinyl from 1978. A really good vibe to their early stuff.
