One that brings back memories of my student days.

On vinyl: Dory Previn - "Live at Carnegie Hall".

I had this live 2 disc set, and a girl I knew at the time had the "Mythical Kings & Iguanas" studio album. I think she was impressed because I was the only person she had met who had ever heard of Dory Previn.

Good days.

Delicate interplay among the three instruments. Erskine is second to none!

Great set and fabulous recording. The rendition of 'Under the Boardwalk' is sublime and 'Renee' brings a lump to my throat every time...

Thanks, I will check.

edit:  not available in the US, they suckered me into giving them my email ("Enter your email address to get exclusive, early access to Deezer before the official US launch date.")  and then notified me I would be entered into some kind of drawing for possible inclusion.  Those tactics would not make me inclined to use their services in the future, chosen or not.  I do appreciate the referral, just didn't work out.

Modern Jazz Quartet "Dedicated To Connie"

Found the download for purchase at iTunes, downloading now.

thanks

Hope you enjoy it Jeff.

I just find 'The last Concert' a bit lacklustre by comparison.

Hi Tony,

Sure am.  I didn't realize he had a new album out until reading this thread.  Just ordered it.  Will have to check out the rest of his catalog as well.

Best regards,

Pat

I love the album "O" and was privileged to see him live when he was touring that album.  One of the two or three best concerts I have attended.

However, I personally would suggest caution with his other albums (not the new, I haven't heard it yet).

I think I am pretty open minded but, although "9" has some very good songs on it, there is something about the overall lyrical tone of that album I found distasteful.   I found the same situation with "B-Sides" release.  Probably just me.

My solution was to make a playlist with my likes on "9" and "B-Sides" and delete the others.  The discs are on the shelf and could be listened to again if I ever chose.  I would be interested in others perspectives on those album.

I have the new available, I am actually a little afraid to listen to it.  "O" and a few of his other songs are so very very good but for me the distance between those and the ones I dislike is just so far.

Not trying to sway you, Pat, just giving you my perspective.  I know I can trust you to make your own judgements.

best regards, Go Pios

Jeff A

Hi Jeff,

Understood.  Always appreciate your impressions.

Best regards,

Pat

I was just listening to this last night, and I totally echo your comments regarding "Under the Boardwalk" and "Renee" although I also feel the same about many of her songs.

With funding help from her fans, Rickie is presently making a new album; very limited edition signed CDs and Vinyl copies can still be pre-ordered, but most of her affordable personal memorabilia has already gone.

Priviledged to see her (and be within touching distance) at the tiny and informal Queen's Hall in Edinburgh a few years back.

I was astonished it wasn't sold out.

Thanks for the info.

Saw and met her on her very first tour. I did my bit for her new album about a year ago but the album has been delayed as she is currently recording some material for it in New Orleans.

That's a shame: I really like this, and its predecessor.

Predecessor yes, this one not so much...
