Inspired by having seen the movie "Jersey Boys" on the plane today:
Hotter/Moore's '54 recording of Winterreise.
Usuall excellent ART digital remaster. Very natural vocal presense and timbre with very little glare. The voice is less chesty and hollow.
Moore’s piano hangs around the voice like a shadow or sometimes like a ghost. His sensitive mellow touch of keys are quite effective in ‘Das Wirtshaus’. Piano is muted in the Leiermann but Hotter’s power of narrative makes a strong lasting impression to close the cycle.
On vinyl - Joe Walsh - "But seriously folks":
I'm not a big fan of the contribution Joe Walsh makes to the Eagles, but I do really like a lot of his early albums (I think I have 4 on vinyl) and the old James Gang stuff.
This album is a good listen!
Clive Gregson - Happy Hour, OK but I think I prefer his work with Christine Collister.
Prompted by another post...
Everlast - Whitey Ford Sings The Blues. His first solo album after leaving House of Pain
"What It's Like" is a track which is well worth a listen
Montreux - Sign Language
On original Wyndham Hill vinyl.
Just had to listen to something else without words after ploughing through the Endless River, to confirm that it can be done and with joy and vitality.
I remember seeing this band (or at least all its members) at the Windhams Theatre in London (and Michael Hedges) about a gazillion years ago. Modern upbeat jazz with hints of bluegrass and even funk played by very talented musicians. Takes me back.
Wonder whatever happened to Wyndham Hill (although it was often a bit too 'new age' for me)?
Gentle Giant - Gentle Giant, another of the groups I managed to miss first time around.
On vinyl:
I'm playing a lot more vinyl than normal at the moment - enjoying playing with my new Keith Monks RCM.
I always like Jackson Browne, but he is sounding particularly good on this sparkling shiny bit of vinyl/
Gentle Giant - Gentle Giant, another of the groups I managed to miss first time around.
I too missed Gentle Giant first time round. Picked this up today so will give it a play later this evening. What do you think of it.
Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head
I know this band get a lot of negative press but who cares. I like it.....a lot.
Haïm at her festive best in this new recording of Messiah. She conducts with much more spirit and conviction than Jacobs, among the relatively recent high profile competition. A great soloist line-up and excellent choir help, with a central role for countertenor Tim Mead. He's good, although even the best male altos cannot bring the (horse)power to this part that a female mezzo can. Overall, one of the best Messiahs I have ever listened to, although McCreesh remains ruler of the roost in this household because he has Bernarda Fink.
Cheers,
EJ

Amazing, warm toned and warm hearted. At the pinnacle of communication and style as well.
Stylishness is crucial to really plumbing the full depth of music ....

H, if you like that , have a listen to In A Glass House, my favourite album.
Long time since I heard a Blue Cheer album, I do have "Summertime Blues" from a compilation on a playlist.
This thread has a habit of making me think "I wonder where my copy of ..."
When I saw this I wondered where my copy of Vincebus Eruptum went to!
DS, I also have that "wondering" feeling myself sometimes...Some of my records seemed to have vanished with no trace!
Nice EP

The 1995 remaster of the 1978 original.
On vinyl:
I play a lot of my JJ Cale albums fairly frequently, but haven't played this one for ages.
It's pretty good!
