Liberty vinyl.
Lots of local to Crawley boys on this album. My great mate Ray was in Brett Marvin and the TBs.
Jim Pitts was very well know in the town and played the Crawley Folk Festival for many years, unfortunately he passed away a couple of years ago.
Andy Fernbach was from Farnham. It's an excellent British Blues album.
Johann Sebastian Bach: Gavriel Lipkind (Cello)
Disc 1:
Gavriel Lipkind is a musician that suits me very well. Not satisfied with middle of the road playing, great effort is always expended in trying to understand the music first and foremost. It is a constant and lifelong search. Lipkind records on his own label Lipkind Productions and it is clear from his mission statement as stated includes the ideas that this is a "conceptually driven recording label" and it involves "the process of grasping, capturing and communicating an abstract idea".
So this is a player and a recording for those on a journey too. Stay away if you are satisfied with strong, unchanging views. The excellent booklet essay by Lipkind is quite something to read and behold and expounds many interesting and abstract ideas about the meaning of this music to him and is precisely what sets him apart from most others.
In general, nothing here is done randomly. That this album consists of three discs (rather than the more common coupling of two) is very intentional as you will see after studying his essay entitled, "A Personal Reassessment".
Basically he is symbolically identifying the grouping (the Trinity) of Disc 1 through 3 as The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit, respectively. The Preludes of 1, 3, & 5 again importantly introduce The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit. Lastly, the programmatic nature of Suite 1 through 6 take us on a journey of the story from Genesis, the Birth / Death, Advent, Journey, Pentecost, celebration etc.
Lipkind plays on a colourful A.M. Farani cello (Bologne, 1702) and the recording quality is quite nice giving a sense of a close recording in the midst of a large stone church. All in all, I am very attracted to this kind of player who isn't trying to impress us with his virtuosic capabilities but is serving the music in his own way through his searching. Often this means slowing down where appropriate and this is essential to me. Personally, this music means the absence of time. It is experiences the thoughts, the sounds, the vibrations, the solitary loneliness of just you and an instrument somewhere in the universe.

Apye,
How is the vinyl SQ? I only have this on CD.
I was thinking about getting this on vinyl because.....
This young man never had a bummer in some 33 LSD trips. Every one of them was a delight, everything under control. He needed only to snap his fingers and down he came, anytime. But on voyage 34 he finally met himself coming down an up-staircase, and the encounter was crushing.

Morning Larry,
As with all PT LP's SQ is excellent.
Original went back as it had a scratch on side 2 of LP1.
Brgds,
Andy.
Hello Andy,
Thanks for the reply. Looking forward to hearing this on vinyl.
Kind Regards,
Larry
Arcade Fire - reflector - disc 2
The Enid on c.d., "Six Pieces", more like seven, as there is a bonus track, which is very good.
Blue Rodeo - In our Nature
Nice blues/rock/country feel to it. LP includes a copy of the CD. LP 180gm vinyl and quiet, dynamic. Maybe I'll load the CD in the CDS3 , sync it to the turntable, and flip back and forth to compare.
Steamhammer Mountains. B&C 1970 original vinyl.
GrĂ¡da - The Landing Step.
All the meta-taggers want to call this "International" I tag it "traditional" - one of the best Irish Trad albums of the last 10 years.
SJB
John Mellencamp "Mr. Happy Go Lucky"
I've moved onto the "B"s in my collection. Not played this in many a day - maybe I should have, it sounds a lot better than I remember!! I've got a long way to go in my trawl through my vinyl yet though.........
Elbow "Build A Rocket Boys! "
One of my favourite albums, especially Lippy Kids and Open Arms. Thanks for the inspiration, think I may play mine later

To me, that is one of the main things this thread is about. The little smiles of memory, or the thought links to the same or similar music displayed by everyone here that moves us to a next or future listening choice. Enjoy !

Death Cab For Cutie "Codes and Keys"
Channel-hopping on the TV today I caught on the Arts channel a programme arts about the making of this album. I hadn't previously appreciated the care and attention that Collins put into this album. When preforming it live his frustration with the crowd was showing when he wanted them to listen to and appreciate the quieter songs whereas the crowd seemingly wanted his traditional stuff. An interesting programme.
