Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway

40 years old this year. Where does the time go.

My favorite trio playing French romantic works. The covers calls them both masterpieces; I wouldn't go as far as saying that about the Pierné on this showing, but the Wanderer manage a wonderful buildup in the first moment that justifies the work's length. Fauré's trio is the better work, and also receives an excellent performance.

I remember the Captain came on at around 5am heralded by a Rocket Morton bass solo that sounded like the end of the world, wonderful  - also my left foot didn't stop being spongy for about 3 weeks after I got home. Fantastic festival for music - Dead memories include it being Bill Kreutzman's birthday and a screen with lyrics and bouncing ball for Casey Jones, "Riding that train high on..."

I also had a touch of trench foot (wearing wellies to festivals wasn't seen as cool in those days!) I am certainly glad I was there though.  The music really was excellent, the organisers have to be given credit for bringing the cream of the American bands at the time - the Dead, Beefheart, NRPS, Dr John, Country Joe McD and also Cheech and Chong - over to play in fields near Wigan, in May, at the very start of spring. Yes I certainly remember a very long wait for Beefheart to come on, then Rocket doing bass intro, I also remember singing Happy Birthday to Bill, Country Joe shouting "give me an F..." and Stacia doing her stuff with Hawkwind.  Family and Dr John were brilliant, the Kinks were very, very drunk.

Try to have a listen to the Box Set CDs and a watch of the DVDs..... Happy Days!

My second listen to this Japanese import. Turned the wick up a bit this evening and this CD sounds even better. Terrific re-production. Probably the first time I have properly appreciated Sultans of Swing, a song that has previously left me a bit underwhelmed. Well worth the extra expense.

How do you find it?

There's a version of Midnight in Harlem in one of the Crossroads that's simply awesome.

Brilliant, I highly recommend it.

Thanks!

This lady can rock. Excellently re-produced CD with real oomph. The song There goes the neighbourhood is a particular favourite with a great studio atmosphere. Very hard to keep the feet still.

Sandinista - The Clash

Getting back into vinyl not only gives me an unexpected sq but also the acces to

some old albums.

Sandinista for me at the time was not important only as music but also as a statement.
