American Music Club - San Francisco

Spotted this while rearranging some CDs.  Haven't played it in about 10 yrs (bought it new in '94).

The year's biggest disappointment: Wunder's playing in the Tchaikovsky is routine, with uneven projection and generally uninteresting tone. He makes nothing of the first movement cadenza. Ashkenazy's conducting yields some nice moments in I. and the opening of II., but can't save this from Wunder's inexperience. The Chopin is worse: Wunder has his moments and occasionally recaptures his early promise as a great Chopin player. Generally, however, he leads Ashkenazy in a crassly foursquare performance. The live sound is cooked, which may have something to do with this. Avoid.

Pat,

Have that in my collection and haven't listened to it for a long time. A little brighter than his more melancholic solo stuff.  Eitzel's voice also being an acquired taste.  But thanks for the prompt, music good enough to hear from time to time.

Currently enjoying this again. The last real Who album, and what great music!

It's a remarkably well recorded album too.

Something with energy and tempo to start the evening. Temptation Waits and Push It are tremendous.  Couldn't possibly listen to this album or band in the car - I'd be breaking too many speed limits. Best to stick to Classic FM, I think.

Hi Graham,

I'm surprised you didn't receive the Kenny Burrell LP sooner. I think I had mine back in February. On Thursday Amazon delivered the Music Matters 33 LP of Cannonball Adderley's Somethin' Else. It's a great copy.

Steve, I  had copy's of both albums so waited to order until I had all the others in the series. Must say they both wipe the floor with the other albums. I think the  Cannonball Adderley is my favourite out of the series however, they are all superb & so

Regards Graham
