Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works, Vol 2

Posted on: 23 November 2014 by kuma

I like Pre Phillips Brendel's work in spite Vox's poor pressing. They hired Val Gelder to do a mastering at least but let down by noisy vinyl production.

Brendel's piano is spontaneous but perhaps not as outgoing and a bit coquettish.

Outstanding.

Scott Walker + Sunn O))) - Soused

Gutsy Impactful festive intro. Big open stereo sound.  Bishop plays with a high level of competence but indifferent.  A Davis/Bishop program always looks good but too grand and not enough intimacy for me.

Such a land mark album, I pulled it out to give it a listen again.

An epitome of ECM Noodle Jazz.

This is one of those records that I keep it around hoping for one day i get a *Lights On* moment.

Not yet.

John Lewis (piano), Milt Jackson (vibraharp), Percy Heath (bass), and Connie Kay (drums).

Recorded in 1956.

Spotted this while rearranging some CDs.  Haven't played it in about 10 yrs (bought it new in '94).

Pat,

Have that in my collection and haven't listened to it for a long time. A little brighter than his more melancholic solo stuff.  Eitzel's voice also being an acquired taste.  But thanks for the prompt, music good enough to hear from time to time.

Hi Jeff,

Appreciate the info.  This is the only album I have from the band.  Was going to explore their/his catalog further at the time, but never got around to it.  Definitely a unique voice, but one I enjoy.

Best regards,
Pat

Need to dig this album out again as I haven't played it in a very very long time. Must be at least 20 years.

Talking of Chick Corea:

From the same period as "Return To Forever" I think. This was the start of a lifetime partnership between these wonderful musicians.

After having a good comparative listen over the weekend and this morning, I do prefer listening to this issue of BotT than to the other formats.

A good melange of Chopin and the playing of Michelangeli  is as always lyrical and articulate.
