Yes I have an official copy of the show but thanks for letting me know in any case.
Where did you buy it?
Didn't got it given by a friend. It is in a box somewhere in the house. Mind you it maybe that I have given it away during one of my famous clearouts. I usually give boxes of cd's away to friends roughly about every 6 months.
Firstly a CD rip from my NAS, the very 'American' Delbert McClinton:
Hmack,
I don't recall a posting for Delbert here aside from myself. I saw him live in a little club in Salt Lake City circa 1990. A great performer and songwriter. If you ever come across his album "I'm With You" on Curb Records from 1990 I'd recommend it. Excellent sound quality on CD.
Funnily enough he is one artist I just don't seem to get. I like his early ABC albums but for some reason and even though I know he is good I keep buying his albums and then giving them away within 6-7 months. Go figure.
Primal Scream Screamadelica on 180g vinyl: what a scream! And the bass? Trouser-flapping (©tm)!
PIL - Metal Box
Original 1979 3 x 45rpm vinyl
In my opinion this excellent second album by Public Image Limited - John Lydon, Jah Wobble, Leith Levine still stands the test of time.
2012 vinyl reissue. Southern fried rock.
From Mike's Aging Baby Boomer Collection I have inherited.
Never heard this album till tonight. Yet I know most of the tunes!
This copy is just an MCA reissue but boy does it sound good. This is one of those 70s American Rock sound at its best before the long decline began.
Kuma,
I just bought Countdown To Ecstacy last Saturday night. Mine is on the ABC multicolor label pressed in 1974. SQ great as you say. The original issues from 1973 have the black ABC label and I'd imagine sound even better. There was also a quadraphonic release. The kid behind the counter at the bookstore where I bought it made a comment regarding "how wonderful album art was on those old LPs".
Just finished:
Released 2009, CD. Classical guitar
This album was very much praised on it's release by our local classical station. A friend at the time happened to mention how he really liked her style of play. Bought and and thought it was nice enough. Recently began playing it again and I have a much better connection to the album. Very enjoyable.
I wanted to hear some more guitar, so put this on after seeing Grant Green mentioned the other day.
Original release: 1965. Current copy: 2010.
Hybrid SACD.
Jazz guitar
Hugo, aiff 24/192.
Remembering my first year studying Engineering, playing guitar and singing with classmates.
Still have the vinyl but "unreplayable" (don't know if the word exists) y would try next time.

Joe,
What a coincident!
*Mike's Stack* contains a lot of original vinyl in mint condition, but apparently, the Dan's Countdown to Ecstasy wasn't one of them. I have replaced my tattered Katy Lied with his original pressing and what a difference! It was almost as big upgrade as putting on a $$ cartridge! I can imagine your original ABC pressing sounds much better.
When CD age came the album art was ousted to a mere 5"x5" surface from 12.25"x12.25" canvas size. No point coming up with a decent art work. ( it will be worse now with absence of physical media )
I used to buy album solely based on the cover!
time for some more Grant Green ...
Title: Grantstand
Orig release: 1962. This release: 2011.
Hybrid SACD
Like the use of the organ here, instead of usual piano.
McCoy Tyner - Nights of Ballads & Blues
Orig release: 1963. This release: 2011
Hybrid SACD
Purchased this a year ago (?) after seeing it posted in this thread. Very enjoyable jazz trio.
My first exposure to Hewitt's Bach with Australian Chamber Orchestra isn't giving me good impressions thus far.
This is a complete opposite take from her fellow Canadian pianist Glenn Gould.
It's too prim and proper lacking freshness.
I hear no sharp attack of notes anywhere. The music seems to be glossed over with fine mist. Easy on ears but very low involvement and soon blends into the background. It is more suited for dinner or relaxing after day's hard work if one wants to be washed over with a soft caressing sound.
The use of piano ( fabulous Fazioli ) in this set is completely wasted as she hasn’t exploited the strength of the instrument to express wider human emotions. Allegro does not feel fresh again piano is blending into the rest of the band too much. Her Adagio is a series of incomplete sentences with bunch of ellipses. Finger work also comes out vague without much of articulation sounding like she’s fumbling through the tune.
Time for some blues.
1971. Format: CD
Another artist I was introduced to on this thread. The depth of blues knowledge here is first rate.
It may not be extraordinary, but I do enjoy his playing of "Rainy Night In Georgia."

In the few years now that I've been "picking" used vinyl I've come to realize that original pressings are usually worth a premium for their SQ. In general, I'd sacrifice a bit of condition to have an original. I've replaced several of the NM condition reissues I had originally bought new back in the day with VG+ condition original pressings that I've found recently in used bins. The Goldmine Album Guide is an excellent reference to help identify labels of original US releases. From there, the Steve Hoffman forum or discogs.com can be good at helping identify the matrix numbers for originals of many popular music releases. Quirky perhaps, but also fun and the SQ justifies the effort.
Miles Davis - In A Silent Way (CBS Jazz Masterpieces)
Inspired to give this album a spin after listening to Craig Charles, on Radio 2, exploring the music Miles produced in his "Electric Period" from 1969-75.
Other musicians on the album include Joe Zawinul, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams, John McLaughlin, Wayne Shorter and Dave Holland.
To be honest after this album Miles and I parted company.

+1. Interesting contrast with his later recordings with John Coltrane.

What a great record this is. Try Pretzel Logic as well, which I think is their best. Every Dan album is very good though.
Now I have all the 'Dan records except the 'Can't buy a thrill'.
Joe,
I also learnt the hard way that most reissues these days aren't very good either !
And many of them can't even drill the hole in the centre.
Thinking about the recent MJQ recommendations and McCoy Tyner this is post-ColtraneTyner with Bobby Hutcherson on vibes. Rec. 2003 on the Telarc label.
McCoy Tyner: piano
Bobby Hutcherson: vibes
Charnett Moffet: bass
Eric Harland: drums
Excellent straight-ahead modern jazz.

Hi Dave,
Glad you are enjoying this. I didn't realize Tyner recorded with Coltrane. So much to learn.
Best regards,
Pat

Tyner was with Coltrane for "A Love Supreme" - IMO one of the greatest jazz records by one of the greatest groups. As well as Tyner and Coltrane, also features Jimmy Garrison on bass and an incendiary Elvin Jones on drums.

Vlad
CD Rip streamed (FLAC) from my NAS:
Neil Young - "Live at the Riverboat 1969"
Nice to hear some early live Neil Young - great performance & reasonable SQ. But there are some really strange monologues from Neil between tracks - weird!
