To end the evening, a couple of mazurkas, by Jean-Marc Luisada. Luisada is slowly progressing his way through Chopin in what may well become an eccentric, uneven but undeniably fresh Chopin cycle.

Well, well. It's a small world, as they say. Mind, I'm impressed you can remember the precise date, Kevin. Very sensibly retained the ticket, perhaps?

I did indeed. I was so excited (I was only 14) I stuck it in my scrapbook.

I think you were ripped off Kevin. I found one of my Floyd tickets from Sat 16 Nov, 1974 @ Empire Pool, Wembley, priced £2.20. BTW,  I don't remember a thing about the gig

Neil Young & Crazy Horse. Zuma. On vinyl released today. From the Official Release Series Discs 5-8. This is disc 8. Nicely pressed 180g vinyl from Pallas. Flat and quiet. SQ is very good to my ears, though I don't have an alternate version for comparison. Usual NY heft on bottom end with perhaps a bit more shine on top. I'm pleased, it will be interesting to hear what others think of this series.

Neil Young. Tonight's The Night. Continuing with the new box set. This is disc 7. Not quite dead flat (but close enough for me), well-centered vinyl. SQ consistent with Zuma and I'm likewise pleased.

Thanks for the write up. Good to know it was well done. I will definitely check out this box set.

I think you might have been slightly ripped off there Denis, I went to see Floyd perform Dark Side of the Moon, Earls Court May 18th 1973 - price £2.00; but I paid only £3.00 for a full weekend Isle of Wight Festival ticket in 1970.

Gracious - Gracious (1970)

Original vinyl

Early British prog. rock band, compared with Crimson etc. at the time, they headlined the Thursday night slot at the 1970 IoW festival.

Edited to add the album has one of the original vertigo swirls on the A side label

Thanks matt. If interested, I posted my initial findings on the box set here

Too extreme to be a good choice for first or only recording, but highly recommended if you're open to new angles of this endlessly fascinating music.

The sound is clean and transparent, which fits the interpretation.

EJ,

Thanks for this.

Sounds like something I might like. There are just so many sets for this popular tunes but I haven't explored them fully. ( Yo Yo Ma's Grammy winning set from the 80s and Martin Zeller from Ma recording's are about it so far I found them rather bland however pleasant. )

I will definitely keep him in mind.

Neil Young. On The Beach. Third of four LPs from today's box set. I think a bit better SQ than the first two I listened to. Maybe it's my mood, but this one really has my toe tapping.

Neil Young. Time fades Away. Completing my quadfecta of the new NY box set. A rare album of live recordings from various US venues. My first listen to any of these songs. Quite a nice evening spent with NY and I'm pretty happy with my Black Friday Record Store Day purchase.

Larry,

Nice to see you're enjoying some NY vinyl as well. Cheers!

Excellent and great to see it back on vinyl as it was never reissued until now so it always been quite sort after And on a petition to Neil to re-release fir many a year. The SQ is as good as my first pressing so enjoy.

The LP came as a shock and disappointment to many fans as he drove into the ditch after his classic Harvest and AfterThe  Goldrush. I loved it especially after seeing him at an infamous gig in Liverpool At the time.

Joe,

After seeing your post I rushed to see where I could buy this. Will try the local record store tomorrow. In the meantime a little psychedelic pill.  Like you I am a big NY fan and this box set will fill a void in my collection. I can't wait to hear "Cortez the Killer" from Zuma.

Cheers, Larry

Interesting this morning. I selected This music to start THE morning als i didn't have an opportunity to haar it so far.

But then I thought string quartet might be a bit much for the Saturday morning as my first music. I normally start with classical piano. So I was already in the process of selecting an album along those lines. But this hypnotic music drew me so much in that I was obliged to stay on the album. Further in the album it does require some more openness so I might still switch to something else. But the beginning was absolutely fantastic...
