Purson - The Circle & The Blue Door
Just started listening to this for the first time and enjoying it.
Moving from common trio jazz to free jazz, a lot to digest, but I assume it will grow on me...
Bert, you'll have to let us know how you get on with this over time. Are Jarrett's grunts audible? (I assume these to be his idea of additional harmony!)
Thanks, CB
It's not so much the "grunts" that concern me, that's a given on a lot of Jarrett's albums, it's his flute and soprano sax playing. But I have read several good reviews.
Dave
On a Jarrett theme, I'm listening to the Montreux album. It's one of my favourites with the Standards Trio, very lyrical.

Don't you just love Jarrett's stride piano on "Honeysuckle Rose" and "Ain't Misbehavin'". Is there no limit to the man's genius.
Dave
I'm still on the first CD, with those to come, but I totally agree. Everyone moans about the grunting but it's just part of the whole. This and Up For It are my faves.
I wouldn't disagree but if I had to keep one CD by the Standards Trio then it would be this album(s).
(actually a box set of 6 CDs)

Your on fire tonight Gianluigi. Great album. Got my copy in Denver the day it was released in the US. I am a great fan of his. New album currently being recorded due for release early next year but maybe put back.
You're right! It's a great record imho. I have this Columbia AAD cd from Discogs and it sounds quite good. But i was so lucky to get a vinyl copy a couple of weeks after it came out in those days. I like him because he tells stories of people. And band just do it right.
Can - Future Days this one remastered in 2009 from the original 1973.
"Can was an experimental rock band formed in Cologne, West Germany in 1968. Later labeled as one of the first "krautrock" groups, they transcended mainstream influences and incorporated strong minimalist and world music elements into their often psychedelic music."

+1 from me - possibly my two favourite Stones albums.
Believe me when i say i have a lot of RS records but i do always get on these. For me Rolling Stones are Gimme Shelter or Can't you hear i'm knoking. Jumping Jack or Satisfaction are great but those songs give me the image of the band.
Prompted by watching last night's documentary of the making of the album on BBC4. A reminder of the care and effort that the band put into each song and how those songs hung together, and even the artwork of the album cover. These guys were/are pretty obsessive.
This is the Discovery version of the CD. Nice it is, too.

Touch/Touch - 1968
This would be an absolute classic if it wasn't so terribly produced, as the music's great. Tinny as hell.
Unfortunately.
For those who don't know Touch, this was a one-off album by a group led by the guy who did the organ riff in Louie Louie, and after this LP went on to produce The Stooges Fun House.
In in style it's like a proto Yes, Search out Circe's Place - it's a stonker.

Gary,
The band is new to me(introduced by a friend) and it's also very prog/psych in the lines of The Nice as far as I can feel. Will do a search for CP. Appreciate the extra input and info.

"Turbulent Indigo" (1994)
How do you find it Jeff. Personally I love it and think it is one of her most underrated albums.
Hi Ewen
Another artist, like Dylan, who I passed over for far too long. With Spotify I am slowly diving into her catalogue and enjoying most all of it. Thanks should probably go to Gordon, GraemeH and you and others I am forgetting at the moment. Right now Hejira is kinda my personal fave but I have lots more exploring to do. TI was most enjoyable also.
Plus, all these new discoveries are helping my ranking points , except I just read Gale 401 might be back soon so their will be competition (actually, if true, that is the best thing I have heard about this year).
Be well, Ewen

"Express" (ep) (2010)
To connect some dots, some of you may notice I listen a lot to a Pittsburgh singer/songwriter named Bill Deasy. He also was in a band named Gathering Field who have recently reformed and have a new releasee.
Another Pittsburgh band was Brownie Mary with main man Rick Jaques. He and Deasy are prolific songwriters (Deasy also writes novels) and ultimately got together to do two eps under the moniker Thomas Jefferson Aeroplane.
Rick Jacques now lives in L.A. and writes under the band name Right The Stars and does a lot of music writing for tv shows. Pop/rock. I love 'em.

"Wild Journey" (2014)
Don't listen to many movie soundtracks, but am enjoying this one...
I guess anyone with an interest in Schubert songs will have, or have heard of, this album, the concluding volume of Goerne's awesome Schubert series.

Continuing with the Kinks, picked up this new reissue yesterday. Flat, quiet -- excellent sound quality. The bonus LP is a lot of fun too. One of my all-time favorite records...
Hawkwind - FRIENDS & RELATIONS Vol.1 - Flicknife release c.d.
the original version comprised a live side (A) ; and a studio side (B), being related bands and artists - archive stuff and would only appeal to Hawkwind fans and long haired drug crazed hippies.
