Strays Don't Sleep

"Strays Don't Sleep"   (2006)

A collaboration between Nashville singer/songwriters Matthew Ryan and Neilson Hubbard.

We're invaded by "xfactor" kind of stuff. But i've found what someone described as  "an Italian alternative post-punk noise rock band". I'm not sure about the meaning. And i'm sorry you can get the power in lyrics.

Thin Lizzy - Renegade

Very underrated album of theirs

Joni Mitchell

"Song To A Seagull"    (1968)

might as well start at the beginning

Posted on: 01 December 2014 by Bert Schurink

Sometimes with extreme almost disturbing dynamics - but still interesting to hear....or one could even say just out of that reason this is a recommended release as it's different as other versions.

David Bowie - Heathen

Another one of Bowie's later releases that is up there with the quality of his 70s output

A chronological Joni "Quest"? What a good idea! Mind if I join you?

'When the Levee Breaks' - Not a great 'remaster' unfortunately but I was sooo in the mood for that track.

Feel free, I am going to try to do one a day from Spotify Premium (US) listing, which is extensive though not sure if it is complete.

Led Zeppelin - Houses Of The Holy

One of the new 24/96 Flac remasters. Not really into the merits of recording techniques if it sounds good and makes me get up and move that's good enough for me and this one does just that. Maybe we have become too over critical. Great cover art.

An ok background type of album

Hindemith's Kammermusik no. 3, a concerto for cello and mini orchestra, goes down smoothly enough but isn't compelling music. Trauermusik, here played with cello, is less substantial (it was a hastily written memorial work for the death of George V, performed the day it was composed) but a much better work. The early cello sonata is Hindemith back in experimenting mode, and there is plenty to enjoy in the second movement in particular (shades of Prokofiev, here) even if the music isn't headed anywhere. Finally, the 1948 cello sonata is more complex and the most musically rewarding work on this disc.

But the sum is more than the parts - as a showcase for the cello and taste of early and middle Hindemith, this disc works well.

Cheers,

EJ

Talking Heads - Little Creatures

not played this in a while sounding absolutely marvellous on the Qute2. This was the last of their albums that appealed to me. Still think their crowning glory was  Fear Of Music.

The Cranberries,  Everyone else is doing it, so why can't we?  Flac streamed via Hugo. I'm revisiting old favourites to see how they sound after changing my interconnect,  and this sounds just wonderful

Love it!

Never get tired of this album, Steve.

I know you're heavily into streaming at the moment and if you need someone to look after your "poor" LP12 while you grow out of  if,  don't  hesitate to give me a call.

I would hate the sight of it gathering dust in the corner,  feeling unloved!

Tony

The demos from this album and the trax that weren't put on it should be released one day as they would make a fairly good album.

Thanks, Ewe,

Let's us know if that  ever sees daylight. It's a beautiful album!

Crowded House,  Woodface, excellent album and another old favourite that did really well in the charts when released in 1991 reaching platinum in the UK. Still a pleasant and chilled album to listen to and the sq is pretty good too. Flac streamed via Hugo

With the exception of tracks 8 & 9 impressive talent mostly wasted on boring material.

On vinyl. Indie-garage-punk from Ohio circa the 1990s.

The year's shaping up to be a great Bach year.

John Grant - Queen Of Denmark

wonderful rich voice and some very cutting lyrics add in the outstanding melodies and you have a masterpiece. Midlake are the band on here.

I love that album but it plunges me into a very melancholic state of mind. More than any other album in fact.

Brings back very vivid and painful memories - even after almost 40 years.

The proof that music IS powerful. My grandmother used to cry when she heard Danny Boy. I get pensive and depressed when I listen to this.

Sorry - needed to get that out there.

Have you considered therapy? Maybe it's YOU, not the album. Just kidding... seriously now, go see someone!
