THE CHURCH OF HAWKWIND  - 1994 Emergency Broadcast label c.d.

different track order to the vinyl edition and extra ones added - forget about songs about unhappy love affairs and other soul searching, or appeals for global equality - this is the domain of tripping the light fantastic at warp factor 7, black holes, cosmic demiurges, future super civilisations, lost astronauts, strange loops in time, and chinese take aways.

About to play this before heading off to the gym (starting my New Year's resolutions early this year) - almost certainly my favourite of many Little Feat albums I have. I have this one on vinyl as well as on CD.

Just a fantastic all round album!

Certainly in my Top 100 albums of all time.

Don McLean. American Pie. The 2003 CD reissue of the 1971 album has a sound faithful to the original. The title track is such an iconic rock anthem that the other songs often get overlooked, but this is a solid album. Many of the songs folksy, I especially like 'Vincent'.

Rush, Counterparts, a good example of a 24 bit remaster that's worth the money.  Excellent album

Bruce Springsteen. The Rising. On CD from 2002. I don't play this often as I tend to reach for The Boss's earlier stuff. It's pretty good and grows on me the more I hear it.

BTO. Not Fragile. On original Mercury label from 1974. Interesting mix of stampers on this pressing, side 1 is mastered by Kendun and side 2 by Masterdisk  with JS initials. I have another copy of this with both sides by Kendun.

John Mellencamp. Plain Spoken. On vinyl from a few months ago. One of this year's best albums from a great singer-song writer. Highly recommended. Here's what one reviewer had to say about the LP: "The amplified instruments take a back seat to the abundant acoustics. Mellencamp's voice is gritty and adds to the genuine, stripped down feel of this album. The presentation is intimate and the lyrics seem very personal and heartfelt, if not with an overall melancholy tone."

Now there is a blast from the past circa my high school days.
