Earlier this evening, interesting collection of music, volume knob needs more push with this one
One of my favourite albums of the year. Of course, the whole album is designed to lean toward introspection and this suits me perfectly. In the right mood, I find the program to be very engaging.
Anna Gourari: Visions fugitives
Prokofiev: Visions fugitives, Op. 22
Medtner: Four Fairy Tales Skazki, Op. 26 No. 3 in f minor
Chopin: Piano Sonata No. 3 in b minor
I simply do not have enough recording of Prokofiev's complete Visions fugitives to keep me happy and so this is a very welcome addition in my home. These are 20 pieces of very short fragments (a minute and most under 2 minutes). A core set of pieces that every pianist should explore. They are as fun to play as some of the directions Prokofiev gives at the start to each. My favourite is No. 10 which has the suggestion, "Ridicolosamente" at the heading.
A very nice album for me.
Jim Suhler - Panther Burn (2014)

Excellent Texas Blues
Alexander Scriabin: Klavierwerke - Burkard Schliessmann, Klavier
After the Prokofiev I had a sudden urge to listen to my two favourite Scriabin piano sonatas. The 2nd sonata is in g-sharp minor and after this disc I'll head to Sudbin for the 3rd sonata in b minor.
This also reminded me that I need to pick up the Daniil Trifonov Live at Carnegie Hall to get both these works on one disc.
Such wonderful music this is.
This superb 2013 released LP.
If you like artists like Dylan and JJ Cale?
You will love this.
Maybe need to give him another listen as I think the last time I heard an album of his was the mid 90's
E,
Do man.
I bought the LP blind after a heads up from a friend having never heard anything of his before.
I was hooked after the first track.
While you are at it give this album a listen.
Have heard the Jimbo album but it didn't hit me right off but it is on a listen again list I have.

Excellent Texas Blues
Try some of his earlier New Orleans albums such as Bad Juju.
If you like that then your next stop should be Tab Benoit and his Fever for the Bayou disc as well as his Standing on a Bank album.
Warpaint - Warpaint
(2014)
Good album. Should play it more often than I do.
Ain't played that for yonks. It's up next.
Brilliant album from a truly underrated artist.
Crosby, Stills & Nash. 2006 HDCD of the 1969 release. I was able to sneak in a listen between the SEC and Big 10 Championship games. Will be interesting to see how the Buckeyes fare without Barrett.
Claudio Arrau II: Great Pianists of the 20th Century
Beethoven | Chopin | Liszt | Schumann
Claudio Arrau is a great pianist of any century. His interpretations and style lead you in a way with such confidence and you have no reason not to trust him. Everything is so natural in the end and you wonder why many others could not find there way or be so off track in this music.
Well said, Doug.
A small image for short pieces.
Nikolai Medtner (1880-1951)
Arabesques, Dithyrambs, Elegies & other short piano works
Hamish Milne (piano)
The Rosebuds - Life Like
(2008)
Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings - Give The People What They Want
(2014)
Robert Palmer's 'Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley' (1974) in a radio active green.
I saw the album cover on this thread a few pages back and decided to give it a spin for the first time. ( from Mike's Aging Baby Boomer stack )
I still prefer 'Double Fun'.
Rosemary Clooney was RCA's answer to Columbia's Dorris Day. Comparing album covers of both singers from the era looks almost identical and hair/make up and even the tone of their husky voices.
The sound of this mono original is natural and tactile sounds like it received a top engineer from RCA.
Here Clooney is paired up with 'White Christmas' co-star Bing Crosby with wonderful Billy May orchestra singing cute and fun 'around-the-world' themed tunes. Corny and Wonder Bread® white but I love the post WW II care-free mid-century Technicolor US era.
The Beatles. Live at the BBC. On CD. I remember receiving this as a gift for for Christmas 1994, right after its release. We had just moved into our new house and it was our first Christmas there. Funny how music/albums can help provide timelines for important events in our lives. I can't believe that was 20 years ago.
