I saw the album cover on this thread a few pages back and decided to give it a spin for the first time. ( from Mike's Aging Baby Boomer stack )

I still prefer 'Double Fun'

Bit of trivia here. The tunnel used for the front cover was the Heathrow Tunnel and Little Feat asked Palmer if he wanted to join the band during a tour they did to promote this album but he said no.

Personally I prefer this album to Double Fun Kuma.

Not surprised. Excellent cast including my favourite drummer Bernard Pretty Purdie.

But I just adore his hit single 'Every Kind of People'.

This is also a perfect tune for vinyl. So groovy.

His fast passages are for me a bit too fast, while the silent passages are very gentle and nice.

Not the usual quiet start to a Sunday for me. I need something loud & powerful to put me into the mood for going to the gym.

CD Rip (FLAC) from my NAS: AC/DC - "Powerage"

followed by Blue Oyster Cult - "Agents of Fortune"

They're wakening me up, but not putting me in the mood to go to the gym!

Excellent Texas Blues

Try some of his earlier New Orleans albums such as Bad Juju.

If you like that then your next stop should be Tab Benoit and his Fever for the Bayou disc as well as his Standing on a Bank album.

Hi Ewe

I've been into Jim and Monkey Beat for a while now, and have most of their recent albums; they are also a great band live, I've been lucky to catch them for a gig or two when they have been over in the UK.

Thanks for the Tab Benoit and his Fever recommendation, I'll certainly check them out.

Will be interesting to see how the Buckeyes fare without Barrett.

I thought it was Pink Floyd playing without him?

CD Rip from my NAS: The Strawbs - "Grave New World"

Can't remember when I last played this, but if you like the Folk/Rock genre, it's one to look out for.

Tangerine Dream ~ Stratosfear

The very good 1995 remaster of the 1976 original.

Great album Tangerine Dream's 70s output is still their best.

A couple of albums I picked up recently to fill gaps in my Grateful Dead/Jerry Garcia and Steve Miller Band collection:

Vinyl from 1978: The Jerry Garcia Band - "Cats under the Stars"

and Vinyl from 1984: The Steve Miller Band - "Italian X Rays"

Loving the Jerry Garcia Band LP, but "Italian X Rays" on first listen anyway is most definitely not one of my Steve Miller favourites. Maybe it will grow on me!

However, I am absolutely amazed by the pristine condition of both of these albums after a good clean on my RCM.

Mellow, but not too mellow - just the job after a good run in the countryside.

Trio Wanderer's anniversary set of the Beethoven trios is standing the test of time - great performances and wonderful recordings. High-res adds a lot to the already excellent redbook, but the production itself is so nice it would be a shame not to go for the traditional CD.

"Tales Of Us"     (2013)

Continuing my Joni Mitchell quest. I haven't played some of these for a while.... All streamed from NAS in FLAC format.

Joni - Songs to A Seagull (aka "Joni Mitchell"). Excellent songs, simple arrangements.

Joni's 2nd album - again excellent songs and simple arrangements.

Ladies of the Canyon - getting more adventurous......

Blue - IMO, a masterpiece. Also in Studio Master from Qobuz.

For the Roses - I always seem to forget about this, squeezed as it is between "Blue" and "Court and Spark". Poor excuse, still a very good albums by anyone else's standards.

"Miles of Aisles" - a double live album with LA Express as backing band, including Robben Ford on guitar. Not one of my favourites - largely conservative arrangements sounding a bit like a lounge/Joni tribute act. I do like the version of Rainy Night House, though.

Court and Spark - together with Blue, my favourite Joni albums and the start a run of three consecutive crackers.... Also in Studio Master from Qobuz. Much more sophisticated arrangements, belting songs and a guest appearance by Robbie Robertson on "Raised on Robbery". I think this is where she started her long collaboration with Larry Carlton.

"The Hissing of Summer Lawns".The start of Joni's move away from the mainstream, still a great album.

"Hejira" - I didn't know what to make of this when it first come out (1976?). Longer songs and the rather forward bass of Jaco Pistorious. I think you have to be in the mood for this - but if you are it's wonderful.

"Don Juan's Reckless Daughter" - IMO a sprawling mess of a double album. I probably play this least of all my Joni albums. I do like "Jericho" and the title track.

"Mingus" I'm not at all sure what she was trying to do here. I hated it when it came out but I've chilled out about it now.

"Shadows and Light" - another live double album. This has a band to die for but I think it drags for the most part. I think this was truncated when first issued on CD but the full version as on vinyl is now available.

And here endeth the 60's and 70's. (OK, Shadows and Light was released in 1980). Not a bad body of work so far!

Hi Jeff. What's this one like? I've really been enjoying their latest album 'singles'

Posted on: 07 December 2014 by Bert Schurink

Nice album with a lot of bass
