Lindisfarne, Lady Eleanore, wonderful music to be followed by Crosby Stills and Nash, Cathedral.  Sometimes a playlist is better than a single album

Music on Vinyl x3

I have been wondering how the SQ on this compares with the CD version - does anyone have experience of both.

Thanks

Clive

Not me sorry however, the music on these three albums is superb and the SQ from a digital source is good. So would imagine the CD set will sound ok.

Thanks - in fact it's the other way round - I have the CDs and I agree about the music. I was wondering if the vinyl would be an improvement. The CDs have gone through something called the No-noise system to reduce tape hiss - and no doubt interfering with other elements of the sound quality. I might get in touch with MoV who do sometimes respond to queries of this sort.

The cd has had all the life taken out of it because of the use of No Noise. Now when were talking good sounding Animals comps. Get this one and it is dirt cheap.

Thanks for this suggestion - it looks a good compilation, but initially what I want is a good collection of the early stuff (i.e. Mickie Most produced). I have contacted MoV to see if they will tell me what the source is.

Hi Cbd, as I posted last week the info on the back cover states digital remasters (p) 1990 the vinyl Is mono and very flat the sq is also good in my opinion. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Quad. That's the same date as the CD but what I really want to find out is whether the MoV files have the NoNoise software.

Just in case anyone else was interested in this thread. I heard back from MoV today and  they couldn't answer the specific question about NoNoise. The reply stated that 'We received and used high res audio files (96 KHZ / 24 BIT) of the original master' but that on NonNoise,  'Unfortunately we can’t trace back if that kind of software has been used'. Good customer service, I thought.

Cdb,

MOV are good at what they do.

Some LPs sound brilliant.

Some not so.

95.5% of the time there main source is direct from Sony and there massive back catalogue of albums.

At the end of the day they are just a pressing plant that sell records.

Surprised it took Simon so long to come up with the idea to be honest.

If you ever want to see it in action?

They are happy to show you round the place If you are ever over there?

Lots on youtube.

B.B. King. There Must Be A Better World Somewhere. On vinyl from 1981. An excellent LP that I should play more often.

Get your brother on the case as this is well worth it. I have the 4 disc set. It has the extra trax that didn't make the album.

Ewen

Can you recommend a good (i.e.: easy to understand) dvd audio-only ripper.  The few I have looked at completely confuse me before I can even actually start.

I have some music dvd I really enjoy but have little need to "watch" them repeatedly.  In the old days of cd-recorders I would do it direct from dvd to cd with track fades and all - tedious and took a while but I could do it.

No cd-recorder any longer and no success with audio-only rippers for dvd.

Thanks for any help.

On Spotify, 1st CD is really good , especially like Black Sunday Afternoon, the 2nd CD of covers is not so good IMO:-

Anna Trenheim - Leaving On A Mayday

Posted on: 11 December 2014 by Hmack

Just played a couple of LPs from the 70s.

From 18=976 on vinyl: Blue Oyster Cult - Agents of Fortune

Followed by (also on vinyl from 1972): The Bunch - "Rock on"

Haven't played this for ages, but a really interesting album from a collection of (then) present and future members of Fairport Convention covering some well known classic songs. Members of the Bunch included, Richard Thompson, Sandy Denny, Gerry Conway, Pat Donaldson, Dave Mattacks, Ashley Hutchings, Linda Peters (before she married Richard) & Trevor Lucas (Sandy Denny's future husband).
