Can you recommend a good (i.e.: easy to understand) dvd audio-only ripper.  The few I have looked at completely confuse me before I can even actually start.

Jeff A

I use Pazera Free Audio Extractor. It is very simple to use.

Thanks Ewen

On vinyl from 1979, the debut album from Sky:

Timeless music from John Williams, Herbie Flowers & co. Pity the album itself hasn't fully escaped the ravages of time. I think I need to get a new copy or a digital alternative.

Different Shades of Blue is the eleventh studio album by blues rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa. It was released on September 22, 2014

CD

On vinyl from 1980: Paul Simon - "One Trick Pony"

Don't know about anyone else, but I prefer this to his later, more lauded efforts.

I have quite a lot of albums by Bruce Springsteen although I am not a huge fan, and they don't get played very often. However, this is one album that does get played - definitely one of my favourite (possibly my favourite) Springsteen album.

I have the 1st pressing Japanese cd with the long version of My Fathers House.

Hi Quad 33,

That does look interesting. I wasn't aware of it, but have just had a look at the list of artists. Los Lobos doing "Johnny 99" sounds good, but I haven't even heard of some of the artists.

What do you think of the album?

Posted on: 12 December 2014 by Quad 33

Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale are two of the pioneers of Americana

Hmack,

This CD was released in 2000. I think it works best when the artists

don't try to sing like the BS. IMO the best tracks are - Chrissie Hynde's "Nebraska", Dar Williams haunting "Highway Patrolman" and Johnny Cash's "I'm on Fire" My favourite is Hank Williams III's "Atlantic City" which  may be the most radical reinterpretation, sung as a bluegrass murder ballad, and its fantastic. Its defiantly worth a listen.

This is the 2002 remastered version which I have never heard before and have only just bought (40 years after it was originally released!) I can recall this being a hot favourite among many of my friends when I was at school; it was cool to be seen carrying the album around.

I can now see why they enjoyed it so much - pleasant (light) progressive rock music with some fine guitar and keyboard playing.

Clive,

I used to smoke these  when that album came out.

Giving this  brilliant album I had never heard of until this morning another listen.

Nice to hear the late great Eric Woolfson playing piano.
