Rodney Crowell "Tarpaper Sky" (2014)
The Blues Came Callin Special Edition
Excellent film supplemented by a superb sound track and some classic cars from the seventies
Bit of Led Zep to start the evening's listening. Leaving aside that classic Zeppelin song on this album, I've also always had a strong liking for the acoustic guitars and multi-vocals of The Battle of Evermore and the rawness of Rock and Roll.
Love the movie and ST as well!
Here's another good one
...and another. But if you're a fan of these first two the likelihood is you'll already have Rock'n'rolla, too. I'm looking forward to the sequal.
The only modern Boheme to rival the greats from the past.
Cheers,
EJ
Nice album, another tip for Iver.
Nice album, another tip for Iver.
Only £1,339:19p for the used Japanese bonus disc set on Amazon! £18:37p for the standard issue.
Fabulous album
Saw him play live a couple of months ago. He's aged, his pianism has become edgier and there is less of the quiet charisma that characterizes his best playing, but he still has that fantastic sound that allows him to float a ppp into the deepest corners of the hall. And he still very idiosyncratic, to the point that there are clear differences between what's on paper (he doesn't memorize the music, apparently), and the notes he spins.
Cheers,
EJ

You know what to do Tony! Get the album out... dust it down... and get on rockin'! "Jesus Built My Hotrod" is definitely one of my Desert Island Disc tracks.
I have some Rev-Co ready to go after this finishes
Edited to add.. I'm reading Al Jourgensen's autobiography at the moment, excellent... he does like his excesses does old Al!

Don't mention old Al, rob. Mind you, does Jimmy still own his old pad?

Thanks to Gale 501 for pointing me in the direction of this.
It's rare for any new music to light a fire under me, but this beautiful album has done it. Lovely melodies; insightful, intelligent and poignant lyrics. Ten tracks - 44 minutes - No fluff or fillers - just solid good stuff. Tastefully mixed with some lovely guitar by Bernard Butler and the classic sound of the Fender Rhodes.
Mr Watt has the maturity and experience not to over-egg the pudding and the recording/mastering quality is pretty good on a high resolution system.
He takes us through the tracks here.
John.
This album is nicely recorded, one would desire to hear this in high res. you can portray the one guy sitting on a lonely evening in front of the mike, making this recording......recommended

+1
Rush, Signals, the follow up to their hugely succesful Moving Pictures album and notable, in my view, for the track Losing It, which has the most beautiful, moving lyrics, from a group known for their lyrics and a guest appearance by Ben Mink playing hauntingly lovely electric violin. A great album that set them off into the 80s. 24 bit flac, streamed via Hugo
