Appliance ~ Manual (1999)
A band new to me until a month or so ago this was their excellent debut album.
"Why three young men from unexotic Exeter should prove so devoted to music originally played by hairy, commune-sharing Germans some time before they were born may be something of a mystery, but there's no denying that the prosaically named Appliance have made a fine, concise debut album. Of British bands dabbling with their own interpretation of krautrock, Appliance are less raucously poppy than Quickspace and lack the jazz inflections of Fridge, but they are impeccably cool sounding."
Another new one for me.... Excellent.... CD purchased for 1p!!

First few tracks and I'm thinking not as good... Maybe a bit too dark? Anyway CD ordered... two quid this one!
CD's are just SO damn cheap!! I must be buying 3 or 4 a week at the moment.
On vinyl (both from 1970):
Creedence Clearwater Revival - "Cosmo's Factory)
followed by: Creedence Clearwater Revival - "Pendulum"
These are two of the first LPs I remember buying as a school kid, when CCR were my favourite band. Just a pity they went to split up acrimoniously shortly afterwards.
Nice one Stu - their last great album. "Chain Reaction/Quantum Physics" is awesome.
Had this Nina Simone box set ("To Be Free") for years and I don't think I've ever listened to it. Correcting that oversight now:
After a rave review by EJ I had no choice but to get it. You could do the same, EJ, and take my recommendation. It is a real masterpiece (Don't Look Back).
Haim, I would - but blues just isn't my thing...
EJ, things can always change.. I am joking of course. There are times when the blood in my veins flows in the opposite direction and that is when I have to play one of my four blues discs. On these rare occasions Rameau, Mozart, Bach and the rest of gang just won't do.
Earlier...
On vinyl...
Then...
Audio Fidelity remastered coloured vinyl...
Now...

Indeed it has Steve. Have a look at the DR database for the readings of the 1987 US original release on 'Relativity'. And subsequent versions. Looks like it's been fu**ed-up a treat. Situation normal with remasters.
John.
Really enjoying these 140g LPs.
