Ludwig van Beethoven:  Maurizio Pollini (Klavier)

Piano Sonata No. 16 in G major Op. 31 No. 1

Piano Sonata No. 17 in d minor Op. 31 No. 2

Piano Sonata No. 18 in E-flat major Op. 31 No. 3

Piano Sonata No. 19 in G minor Op. 49 No. 1

Piano Sonata No. 20 in G major Op. 49 No. 2

Well, I survived 40 years, which is long enough to finish the Pollini Beethoven Sonatas set and as it happens also gave me enough time to pay off the 11 full price discs along the way (yes I have a few duplicates due to the repackaging efforts of those pesky marketers who obviously were also looking for something to do over those 40 years while keeping Pollini's pockets full).

Good thing I had other recordings of the Beethoven Sonatas to keep me going.

Wolfgan Amadeus Mozart:  Martha Argerich, Orchestra Mozart, Claudio Abbado

Piano Concerto No. 25 in C major K. 503

Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor K. 466

Recorded just 9 months prior to the passing of Claudio Abbado last January 20th 2014..

Rossini's 12th opera, coming from the same good year as L'Italiana in Algeri and Tancredi. As with all Rossini, whether it's good depends entirely on the performance - and once again Opera Rara came to the rescue with the first commercial (studio) recording, with an excellent cast.

With Mark Knopfler, Pete Wingfield, Billy Bremner (not the footballer!), Christine McVie and a certain Sir Cliff Richard (no idea who he is) making appearances in his backing band.

Christine McVie joins him for a great version of McGinness Flint's "When I'm dead and gone".

Funnily enough When I am Dead and Gone was the first song I ever played on stage.

Somehow I ended up with two copies of the same vinyl, both purchased before 1983. The playing is just exemplary to go along with a clean and warm sound of the piano.

This is ace Denis. Love the way it builds and the range of instruments. Reminds me of White Willow, and that's a very good thing.

Hi Gary,

I discovered the band a couple of months ago. You can also by 24 bit downloads from their site. I also bought this interim release ( home made CD & hand written case! )they made in the 2nd half of this year.

It's becoming increasingly annoying to publish what you are listening to due to the copy and past problems with photobuckets (which seems to be an iOS problem). So again without picture, Marcin Wasciliesky with Faithfull - also a great album, like his last one which I published this morning.

No problem!

FKA Twigs - EP2 (2013)

Vinyl

Posted on: 21 December 2014 by Bert Schurink

Managed to again copy it. In it's beauty and style quite similar to the music of Marcin W. - so give it a try if you are in the corner of Tord Gustavsen and alike...

Looks good, especially as I really like both Wasilewski and Gustavsen. It's now on its way from the U.S. to my US. Thanks for the tip.
