The Opium Cartel "Ardor" (iTunes download)

Posted on: 07 February 2014 by George J

The Brahms Horn Trio, played by Brain [Aubrey] on the Horn, Busch on fiddle, and Serkin on the piano.

The recording dates from 1932 [Abbey Road, No. Three Studio], and is not the easiest to replay well as the first 78 side is poorer than the rest, so it starts off as a bit of a tussle as a listen. You need to be in the mood, but get past the first side, and you are rewarded with a performance of true greatness.

Aubrey Brain was the father of more famous Dennis, but he was every bit as fine a player as his son, and has that old fashioned slender French Horn timbre that utterly suits the music and balances the violin and piano.

Streaming  FLAC rip

Just my second listen to this and it is unmistakably 'Sabbath, the opening track takes you straight back to their iconic self titled album and single some 45 years ago. Now where did I put those flared denims and platform boots?

A brilliant album, especially the bass line in God Is Dead. Always loved Sabbath.

Track original vinyl. If anyone wants a decent audio copy of Axis on vinyl at a reasonable price then this is the answer. The SQ of this album is as good as my 1st press copy in similar excellent condition. These Backtrack reissues were released in 1970 and can be had for less than £20.

Original 1971  first pressing and  pure,  unadulterated blues without those two "blond things", in particular that irritating "Isoundlikeadeadsheepsinging" Barbie doll,  to spoil   the works.

If I remember correctly Christine Perfect, as she was then, played piano on some of the tracks. But I know what you mean. Great album.

In need of a laugh, I was driven to break out the Bonzo Dog (doo-dah) Band for a touch of remedial care

I have to agree Tony. I much prefer them in the Peter Green days.

Another from the batch that arrived today....Freddie McGregor....deep base vibes....the system and speakers  handle it really well..... foundations are rumbling...like being in those smokey reggae clubs in Handsworth in the late 70's!

TBO I did not know that. My main problem is with the other one. I just cannot stomach her singing. Also the freaking lyrics, which Christine penned, makes want  to puke.

It's just me Steve.  Take no notice.
