Wow !!!   I have the CD of the Hendrix Woodstock gig & listen as an when,  but to watch the master at his best !!!  MUST get a DVD

-  like the last Cream concert,  TYA at The Marquee,  Peter Green in all his forms,  its our own no body else's history for a 1960's yoof  (2014 crinkly)

Now droolin' over the Doors & the west coast scene & anticipating my up coming 3 weeks touring west coast in June.

I saw this late, but I don't get BBC4 anyhow. I'd be interested to hear what folks thought, as these may play on Palladia in the future.

This is the BBC iPlayer link

Its an uncut film of the Hendrix Woodstock gig

What can you say,  if you are a Hendrix fan that's all you need to know.

Although listed as the Jimi Henrix Experience,  he called it "Gypsy Sun & Rainbows".

Mitch Michell was on drums but Noel Redding had left.  The rest of the line up was Billy Cox on bass who stayed with Hendrix thru the Band of Gypsy's & an extra rythm guitarist Larry Lee plus 2 percussionists.

Thanks for that, Mike.

Any thoughts on The Doors?

Be sure to visit Venice Beach on your west coast tour. A very interesting slice of Americana .

Already on the schedule joe

We're staying in Santa Monica for 2 nites so can hardly miss it

Some Doors I like, the other stuff I can leave

During the 60's they were one of our "image" west coast bands so we were maybe a little too enthusiastic with the legend rather than the music.

The Doors program was utterly fascinating. How the LA Woman songs were written and recorded, with Ray Manzarek and Bobby Kruger at keyboard and guitar explaining. The transition from the c&w ghost riders to riders on the storm was particularly interesting.

Thanks for tip, Mike. Hit the record button on my Sky box and just finished watching the recording of Hendrix at Woodstock.  Enjoyed it. He really was guitar genius, wasn't he? Still can't quite get used to seeing the performance played in open-air daylight with no lighting effects whatsoever though. Seems to lack atmosphere somehow.  Even the shots of the crowd show them to be watching somewhat passively. Not like the gigs I remember attending.

Hendrix didn't come on stage until 9 AM Monday. Guess those who stayed were tired or wanting to get to work. Saw the footage at a local theatre a few years ago, looked magnificent on a big screen. Interestingly, he wasn't supposed to close the show, Roy Rogers was asked to come on afterwards and play 'Happy Trails' but declined.
