New DVD Writer Wrong Connections

Posted by: Mr Paws on 10 January 2014

Hi to all,

I wasn't too sure which forum this should go in so apologies if I've got It wrong.

I've just opened my old eMachines PC and removed a failing drive to fit a new DVD Drive only to find the connecting plug/s are different.

On the old drive there were two connecting cables, one long thin multi plug and a shorter four pin plug but the new one has been supplied with just one thin cable and it doesn't fit any of the other possible plugs or on the motherboard.

My PC is seven years old now running Windows XP. I'm sure there's a solution like some sort of conversion cable but I can't find any joy on the Web.

Can anyone point me In the right direction please ?

Thanks in advance..

It sound like your old dvd player was an IDE interface (aka  PATA) and the new one appears to be a SATA interface.

would an adapter like this http://www.amazon.com/HDE-SATA...dapter/dp/B002Y2NI4M

fit the type of connectors old and new?

cheers

Hello Aleg,

Thanks so much for taking the time Sir

I've had a quick look at that Amazon link you included in your reply and the pictures and it does look promising indeed.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks again Aleg..
