DSD?

Posted by: Hanover33 on 11 January 2014

Maybe this is a heretical question on this forum, I don't know.

What is Naim's position on DSD, does anyone know?  Has anyone experimented yet with DSD to PCM conversion to experiment with sound quality and etc?

I know you can get a DSD capable CD player, etc. but how about direct streaming?

I'm sure the potential will be realised if it is seen fit. There are DACs hitting the shelves monthly which are DSD capable. The reviews of the musical enjoyment are mixed and most focus on the technical aspects as opposed to how musically delicious it is or is not. Assuming no compromise in sound quality and assuming DSD doesn't park itself in a small niche, it will probably happen. At this stage these are pretty big assumptions. The tipping point between last week and a viable future is nowhere near established.

I have converted many DSD recordings to 24/192 flac (and then converted on the fly to wav) and the quality is very good IF the original master (very often analog) is good, otherwise...
