2014 The Year of The Vinyl

Calling all vinyl addicts

Now that we're into the new year good and propper I have decided that this the year to bolster my vinyl collection with some quality recordings.

So I would be grateful for suggestions for good quality albums that are well recorded and would also make a good investment for the future.

So information on what to look for in terms of pressings, values etc. would be gratefully appreciated.

I eagerly await your suggestions

Many thanks in advance

Over enthusiastic typing on the title I'm afraid. I realise my spelling mistake on the word Vinyl

A rather broad question Tan. I'd be happy to oblige but it would depend somewhat on what your musical tastes are. Also are you after new vinyl only or secondhand as well?

New and second hand. happy to look at all genres. I can always spotify first to get an idea.

I have a broad taste

Thanks

Shirley, the official year of vinyl was 1948 - rather a rather long time ago ...

Only fifty years less out of date than the 78 disc in reality.

This double vinyl from 2009 seems to go down well when the vinyl recommondation question is asked : )

Amazon.uk ~ £22.27

Best bet is to go to a record fair near you....that's really how I started looking for gems...before I had tinterweb.

I suppose this is some of the information I am looking for. I have bought some real duds on ebay

Thanks Debs. Very helpful

On Debs's footsteps, this is also a great album and SQ, on original albums,  is just extraordinary.

Best of luck

I’m a fan of Neil Young, and to date have about 10 of his albums that are mostly quite recent pressings which fortunately sound really fabulous : )

Tan,

For new vinyl Amazon is usually your best bet. They list forthcoming releases and you can often get a good deal by preordering. It's also very easy to send them back if there's a problem or you don't like it. A few of us tip off others on the forum if something good comes up.

For secondhand vinyl I buy most of mine now from a very good place at my local market. Occasionally I use eBay but only go for sellers with a good reputation.

Good luck,

Steve

Arrived today. Having not listened to Yello in more than a decade this LP has brought it all back. I had forgotten just how good they are and what amazing sound quality they're recordings have. Great recommendation Debs

Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo recorded 4 cover songs, DIRECT to vinyl last Sunday. The 10" slab will be release on Record Store day in April.

Or at least what all the 'stoned dudes' are playing . Love Jimi's garb. He looks like he might be doing some pioneering in DJ scratching.

I'm intrigued: please explain the process.

Just bought 'Let Em All In' by 'I Am Kloot' and 'Holy Fire' by 'Foals'.

Both very good albums and great sounding too.

Regards,
Steve.
