"no-one in his right mind would commit to s/ware dates until testing is finished you cannot be sure what else may have been disturbed"
Speaking with over 30 years software development experienceI have to say, sorry, but of course you can and the comment exhibits a lack of understanding of the software development process. For any change, big or small, the design process should address both the change and its impact on the system as a whole (i.e. including knock affects) and how much development work will be required. You also define what testing is needed to cover both aspects. Then you CAN specify how the long all the development and testing will take and can give a delivery date. Then you implement the change (including any software changes required elsewhere to accomodate it) and test it and other affected parts of the system. Then you deliver. Under no circumstances do you make a change and then see what knock-on effects it may have as implied by the above statement. Firefighting a knock-on effect will most likely raise another one and you end up with a series of ill thoughtout changes. Sure, you will encounter bugs during testing but should not encounter unexpected problems with functionality elsewhere as everything should have been designed-in. If that is how hoop.la operate then I would recommend that Naim drop them ASAP.

PS I think i've now got the message - the forum as it is now, is it. subject of course, to the odd little mod from time to time. Well, the "quote" and "search" were certainly essential features, astonishingly missing from the first release, but now thankfully included. Overall - well i'm dissappointed, but despite that, won't leave of my own volition. I can't see the situation arising, but if it did, I would be less thanhappy to recommend Hoop.la to anybody. Naim products on the other hand, well thats a different kettle of fish.....brilliant.

Maybe if you have unlimited resource and no third party inter-actions and breaking no new ground.

I still don't get the toggles in the Post Reply box.
I guess that's usually good advice but when your horse is dying and you are starting to drown, it's probably a good idea to find another ride.
Paul, We are not trying to tell you how to run your company - we are just trying to describe what's missing in the Forum. And the features we are talking about are not fancy new wish list stuff but things either missing from the previous forum or features very common on hundreds of other Internet user groups.
I know you view this group as an extension of your marketing effort. But to me and thousands of other customers it is not only a fun place to visit on a regular basis but an important place to express our love and joy for all things Naim. Why should anyone be surprised that it brings out responses that are so emotional?
With any big change, two weeks of complaints is expected..... Two months of complaints is a PR disaster. There is a big difference is business between can't do it and because of cost, hassle, and an incompetent vendor I won't do it.......

Not a fan of the "new" format, maybe it fits iPod Touch screens better.
I prefer the older format, easier to read at least. I suppose its too late to vote.
I just hope Naim did not have to spend any money on this, not up to par with the usual Naim image.
David
Not the end of the world, but annoying when you want a quick confirmation of box sizes
Will be nice when this is all finally finished
I have managed cmpy www in the past that included changing www designs twice & webmasters once & have to say that this Naim change is taking way more time & mess than I would have thought acceptable to anyone.
Paul, that's pretty cool but maybe it should look a little more like a button so forum newbies (and regulars) will be tempted to explore it. Would have never tried to click on it without you guidance.

As far as I know this is part of the main template and the space below can used by us to add
Marketing/advertising or extra info from time to time. We could sell the space to others to advertise

but we won't. It maybe in the future we may wish to invest in custom pages and we could re-consider this layout but right now it's the way it is.
Understood Paul, and thanks for the reply.
While I appreciate you not selling advertising on the right side of the page, I do strongly believe that this change in format would have a huge beneficial effect on the forum's usability. I also believe that the waste of space is the number one reason why the overall look and feel of the new forum is considered by most to be a downgrade from the previous forum.
Hopefully the cost of Hoop.la providing a new, more space efficient template will not be prohibitive, and you will seriously consider it at some point in the future.

I'm not short, I'm space efficient

Jan our plan is way above these and is on a different business offering/space basis.

Impressive ; but given the amount of free beta testing that's gone on here, Naim should get nothing less than the best from Hoop.la.

Jan
This site has almost everything I would want in a forum site (i only visit 2).
I think this is a fairly standard template.
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=19.0
- Good use of screen real estate.
- "Mark [as] Read" ability.
- Shows if you have participated on the thread.
Two that I REALLY like.
Show unread posts since last visit.
Show new replies to your posts.
The Threads Summary show who started the thread, who posted last etc...
Inside each thread, you see everything you could possibly want.
Isn't this type of site something a teenager can bang out?
