Adam, the fact that you can include Wittgenstein here means that, for me, your time at university was not wasted.

Seriously..... I am all about offering my opinions on the site.... and i do agree the previous one was better. Any new features added here are trumped simply by the old layout. Bring back the same screen ratios, font and spacing and I dont really care about anything else. I am certainly not losing sleep over it, nor am I feeling like I am missing anything.BUT REALLY!!!?!?!?! People are "leaving the forum" and threatening to go elsewhere. Maybe even hinting at leaving the brand for audio as well???? COME ON PEOPLE.
The whole point of this place is communing with others with passion for Naim and music in general, learning, sharing, helping, advising..... It really isn't that bad.
People FREAKED out about profiles being shown on the iPhone app. Arent those same things easily viewable to anyone who logs into this site? Why would you put ANY personal information you want to keep private on ANY website. That is computer-kindergarten stuff there.
It isn't a big deal. Everyone calm down. George get your ass back in here please. We will all pool in for a Nait 5i for you.

It's a forum for goodness sake. Keep it constructive.
Think you guys may be missing the point a little. This site is not a forum it is an interactive site such as Facebook. Agreed it doesn't have all Facebooks extras but nevertheless it is an interactive site and as such it's basic failure at the moment is too allow people to do that. Consequently in this modern day and age people go elsewhere you only have to look at what has happened to myspace. I won't leave but won't post as much (as have a large number of older members) because they basically haven't fixed any issues that I had with the new forum and in fact things have made things worse. I will show patience but how long will that last I do not know.

The last time I checked... Many sites eg like the BBC website are fixed width and like most sites of that format it looks better centred. Are you saying that all web pages should be like the 'stretchy vision' that people use to watch 4x3 originated material on their 16x9 widescreen TVs?

I have just read this thread in detail.
There are numerous useful, constructive comments and suggestions.
However, some (a minority) of the comments tell the reader more about the temperament and quirks of the contributor than anything else.
I have valued the forum for over a decade and it has guided most of my Naim purchase decisions to some extent or other. Therefore, I'd like to see progressive enhancements.
None of the problems with the forum, however, pose a threat to any contributor's health and safety, or that of their wife/partner/mistress, and/or children/grandchildren. Therefore, I wouldn't want Naim to prioritise forum issues above product development and production. (There are already queues a mile long for some products - and a wish-list several miles long for potential new products.)
Let's all be patient and give Naim more time to sort out the genuine issues. Afterall, Naim is a very committed, consumer-focused company.
Respectfully, if you can't say something helpful and constructive, then go let off steam somewhere else.

Still no WYSIWYG toggle on my Post Reply box, making editing quotes a PITA.

Pay attention dear.
Some people were disturbed to discover that fields were visible with the 'app' which were NOT visible when viewing a profile on the PC. Notably address and telephone fields. There is a difference in trust between sharing these (privately) with the Administration of the Forum and the world and his dog.
In addition, although there was an option to hide birthday on the PC this preference did not transfer over to the application.
It is often not clear what parts of a forum membership application are mandatory - the old forum required a Date of Birth as "confirmation" of adulthood and moral responsibility. It was pointless but a date had to be entered.
Some were obviously invented and others, innocently, the true date. Neither were disclosed to any but the Forum Administration.
Given the option to hide my DoB I had filled it in accurately - I was later somewhat perturbed to then see it appear in my profile on the iPhone.
I see that you have given your birthday as December 23rd. Presumably a lie; but you could have eased your conscience by electing for it not to be displayed. This caution would then have been defeated by the unsynchronized indiscretions of the 'app'.
"Why would you put ANY personal information you want to keep private on ANY website."

I think you should check out your browser (version) as well.
I had the same but after updating my browser all suddenly appeared and works fine. Except the adding of line breaks when switching to and fro.
I think it all has to do how the browser handles the html and flash

Opera automatically tells me when an update is available so this is the current version I'm using.

The sooner a list is posted of the "fixes" done on the 7th, the sooner we will be able to comment as to whether they work properly and whether we like them or not
The sooner a list is posted of the "fixes" proposed for some future date, the sooner we can stop whinging about them being missing and concentrate on "fixes" that we would like to see but are not currently proposed.
If this second list was updated from time to time, it would provide a level of confidence that "somebody" is listening.
Too much to ask???
Cheers

I still can't get the "quote" to work (probably me, but who knows?)
The black/dark grey/lightgrey format is difficult to read in anything other than perfect lighting. The old form was much better
The half-width-screen-page layout feels unatural. It needs to be centred
The "reply" box should be re-sizable
A spell-check would be useful
Each sub-forum list of posts should list the number of "views" as well as the number of replies in each thread
Just a few of my points of view
cheers
Don

AllenB & Patrick -
Good posts, and you both 100% right.
It took me a week off to calm down and get over my initial hissy fit. At the end of my sabbatical, the only thing I really missed was reading other people's posts, and being able to contribute to the conversations. It is a bit harder to do both now, but it is doable, so I am back for the duration.
But wouldn't you think, after all these weeks of constant and unanimous complaining, that Naim and Hoopla will get the message that the stupid buttons on the top right need to go? This half screen stuff is so lame.
The thing that is bugging me the most right now is the lack of clarity. Would it kill Naim and/or Hoopla to provide a list of what will will get fixed and when? The search facility was promised for last Thursday, and now it is 3-4 weeks out.....ok, not complaining, really, I appreciated the update -- a nice little taste of what and when. Thank you for the update!
But if Paul or Richard posted today that the plan was for buttons on the top right to be gone (and maybe the gray on gray contrast improved....too much to ask for?) on such and such a target date, can you imagine the flood of THANK YOUS that would hit this thread? It would rival Tahrir Square...
Hook
PS - I do like the idea of restricting this thread to constructive criticism. There is already a Padded Cell thread for ranting and bunny pictures and stuff, so fire away folks....but over there please.
PPS - Put me down for $20 for the George Nait 5i fund. The vocabulary and grammar lessons alone are worth every penny.

I'm also finding post reply problems with IE as has been reported above. First attempt I get the spinning cogs and no response. Close window, browse back into forum, my reply is not there so post reply again and get quick response and reply appears

" The search facility was promised for last Thursday, "
I don't recall that promise, Paul S made it clear some time back that the search facility would NOT feature in the 7th Feb upgrade.

Hi Don -
With all due respect and no wish to argue, and maybe I am going blind, but I just scanned the feedback threads. Quite possible I missed the post you are referring to (again), but here's what I did find:
Part 1, P19: Paul thinks the search facility is functioning, but it is not.
Part 1, P20: Kuma replies to Tog (January 30, 2011 at 1:44 AM); there is an implication that Search will not be part of Feb 7, but it is not clear at all....and besides, much as we all like Kuma, it is still third hand info and not coming from Paul or Richard
Part 1, P21: Paul says "...the priority top of list is search and quote..."
Part 2, Yesterday: Richard says we are 3-4 weeks out on search.
It is pretty hard these days, without a search function, to verify facts before posting. Please feel free to point out Paul's post if you want, and I will gladly offer up an apology!
But I still stand by my opinion that too little has been done to inform us of what will change and when. Would really appreciate if Richard put up a locked thread with a list of forum issues that Naim formally acknowledges as real, and as meriting change. It would at least show that Naim is actually listening to our feedback, and give us some hope that some of the more universally annoying things will change.....someday.

Why is the Embed code for You Tube Videos not working ,I have tried every combination I can think of to no avail. Why can't we have a simple way of embedding videos such as example
which appears to be standard on most forums.

Hi Hook. You win. Life's too short to search for the evidence, might not have been Paul, it might have been the Hoopla bloke (sbwallace) anyway,

The Linn Forum, LargeFormat Photography, PinkFishMedia, SteveHoffman's, Rangefinder Photography, Badger & Blade ... all use an off the shelf forum package which works very, very well.
Why on earth would you want to create such a custom forum which ultimately fails to provide for the basic needs of a forum user ?
Or is this all designed for iPhones and iPads ? I thought Naim wasn't about pushing boundaries, but all about doing the basics better than everyone else ?

I was kinda hoping it would allow you to make SELECTIVE quotes, ie the bits that are relevant to your reply.
So its gonna be great (not) seeing half a dozen previous posts in a reply, then having to guess which bits are relevant to the new post.............oh dear! back to "copy & paste"

J, I might have to edit this post, but if you click on 'Posting Tips', it tells you how to (sort of). This one is done with the embed code using the html button on the right... which appears to be standard on most forums.
The time I tried pasting the http address http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8d2cNhNf-wc in the insert media box, it put a line of extra code in (that didn't show in the preview). I'll have a go...

Paul, you have my sympathies. Please don't despair, most of us will struggle on with the forum no matter how bad it is, i'm sure. It's not exactly a life-or-death issue. Irritating? yes, but not life-or-death.
