iMac question number several.

Posted by: BigH47 on 18 January 2014

It's about time for another in the series of Howard's iMac questions.

Any idea why when playing YouTube videos the sound comes out of my iMac speakers, but iTunes sound goes via usb/dac?

This is a recent development, usually it's either all USB or all iMac speakers, I have looked around at various settings but can't see why this should happen.

Any help will be appreciated.

Howard.

Hi Howard. Go into the Midi settings window, show audio window and check that your USB DAC's selected for sound output. There should be a small loudspeaker icon next to it. If the icon's next to "built-in output" then click on the little gearwheel at the bottom, highlight the DAC & select for sound output.

I see it, but for some reason it won't allow any changes, it seems to have both selected for sound output, ie local and USB. I disconnected the USB and the Terradac now does both duties . Lets see if it stays so,

Thanks Tony

Ah. OK, are you using a Teradac or a Teralink USB to spdif convertor? If it's the latter they do tend to be a bit cranky. Unplugging and replugging often fixes the problem for a while.

Yes Tony I'm using the Terralink USB thingy. Touch wood it's been fine, but like most e things it has a mind of it's own at times.

Hi,

I am new to all things Mac. Would it be ok if I posted questions here as well? Or start a new thread?

If a different subject I would launch a new thread to distinguish it from this one.
