DAC V1 review

Posted by: analogmusic on 21 January 2014

I purchased one and it's still quite new, so it needs to run in for a few weeks.

But I found myself listening to FLAC files from start to finish, enjoying it (not wanting to forward it to the next one) and when it stopped, enjoyed the next one.

Same with low bit rate internet radio played through USB Laptop.

I would say, for me (and I don't like digital audio), that's quite a achievement from Naim and Audiophilleo.

In fact the only digital sources I have ever liked are from Naim (NDAC, NDS, CD555) and now I am very pleased to own the V1. (I haven't heard the whole range)

There is no digital harshness, edge or grain and nothing offensive or digital at all about the way it plays music. And most of all it's fun to listen to

+1 -> Now do you understand why I voted it product of the year 2013?

By the way it was your comments that made me decide to buy it. As you said you had and sold the NDAC 4 (!) times, but kept the V1.

it is my first Naim source, but what a source

PS : the NDAC is also fantastic. I wanted the V1 because of headphone listening.

Can Naim please add an audiiophilleo USB input to the NDAC?

Also the brass suspension...? That would make it the MOAD (mother of all dacs)

God forbid!!

there are better ones than AudioPhileo.

If you want an AudioPhileo, you can buy a separate one, just don't burden other people with it.

cheers

I haven't got the opportunity to go listen to all the USB SPDIF convertors.

that's naim job to do anyway. I simply trust them,

I am no audio engineer anyway.
