Hi All,
It happens that enabling upnp feature on the modem/router expose to external vulnerabilities. There's an online test here : http://upnp-check.rapid7.com/.
I switched off the upnp feature on my Modem/Router and I was surprised That can still stream tracks from my NAS to the Uniti as it was before.
So it seems that enabling upnp feature is not a mandatory step for streaming over LAN.
As I am soon changing internet provider, I wonder if it will work (not enabling upnp) with the coming new modem/router.
Appreciate any thoughts or hints on this
Cheers, Sam

I've read something about this in the past. Of course Gary is right; one really has nothing to do with the other. The part that's a security vulnerability is what I've read about in the past, and something that responsible vendors should have default to the "off" state I seem to recall reading. But the way we use UPnP at home to stream music has nothing to do with what's a vulnerability. They just share the label "UPnP."
In short, nothing to worry about.

UPnP is a protocol with a whole load of functions based around discovery and enablement. UPnP on routers/firewall is quite different from the DLNA subset of UPnP functions. The former uses the protocol to automatically open up ports and translations on your NAT based firewall, without that certain applications would not function over the internet unless you manually set up the port translations and forwarding which is beyond most consumers
