ReadyNAS Woes

Posted by: Mr Paws on 23 January 2014

Oh dear here I go again I'm afraid.

I've been ripping some of my CDs earlier tonight in the usual way dB Poweramp on my PC then sending the files to my NAS.

I ripped five CDs and did a re-scan on the Logitech Server then played all the files on my UQ1 with no problems at all.

Watched a bit of TV then after a couple of hours went to play some music on my NAS only to find it won't play anything at all so marched upstairs re-started the NAS bit no joy there so I'm miffed to say the least.

I have been having intermittent problems playing files lately and even re-assigned a new IP address (192.168.1.11) going through RAIDAR which did sort things out but I just can't understand what's going on now.

The nStream app is telling me the files are there but the Qute is saying 'Can't Play'

At the moment I'm still using Two TP Link Powerlines to get the signal from my NAS which is upstairs and the Qute lives in my lounge. I suppose I could switch the PL's off then back on but I'm sure they're ok.

It's so frustrating not knowing what to do when one is trying to get to grips with the techie stuff but I'd be grateful if anyone could help me out on this problem please?

Thanks in advance..

Mike.

extremely frustrating stuff alright, did you try the trusty re-boot of the UniQute, which I have to so more that I would care to?

Also is the ready nas running any scheduled task?

Hi there SJB,

Yes sometimes streaming can be a pain however for some reason the music came back !

Ive imported some CDs this morning but I've noticed I seem to have Two ReadyNAS drives ! I'm not sure whether this is the root of the problem but I can't delete the 'extra' NAS anyway.

Back to scratching my head now  ...

I think you should try to monitor the network over the powerlines. Like pinging the NAS from the PC and see if you get dropouts.  Open a cmd promt and type "ping -t 192.168.0.xxx" without quotes and the right IP adress of the NAS.

Ok, once setup correctly NASes just work.. Until something fails ... So it sounds like it's not set up properly.

1. Ensure you are using a wired Ethernet connection to the NAS.

2. I assume you are using CIFS shares with non MS devives as well as MS.

3 if 2 is yes, them fix the IP address of the NAS. Do this my looking at your DHCP server, probably on your broadband router and fixing the IP address assigned to the NAS.

if you need help on the last bit come back here, but is usually simply telling the DHCP server to associate the NAS layer 2 MAC address to a given layer 3 IP address, usually via a little table on a web GUI.

my Netgear has a MAC address of

c0:3f:0e:0a:73:fX

(I have just obvisgated the last hex digit)

Mike - I've had the Readynas NV+ for several years.

Two things i've found useful - fix the IP address.

RAIDar > Frontview > Network > Ethernet > IP assignment > Use values below then enter an appropriate IP address.

Check your share settings - mine occasionally has a habit of forgetting its share settings.

RAIDar > Frontview > Shares > Share listing.
