Are there any decent carpet cleaning machines out there?

I've just tried a borrowed Vax upright machine, and it's a noisy horrible piece of kit. I think it has made the carpet wet, foamy in some areas, and when it eventually dries I might be able to see if it cleaned the carpet.

In the machine's defence, the owner is a real Mrs Mop, always cleaning, and uses the wrong cleaning fluid in the tank. The machine only cost about £90 around 7-10 years ago, so I might be expecting too much.

Any help gratefully received

This is the one we use Tony , as you said you need to use the recommened solutions to clean the carpet....Jim

I couldn't believe that price, so thanks for the recommendation, Jim.

That's only slightly more than the base models, so fingers crossed that Amazon perform as they usually do for us.

We have a Bissell Powerwash pro, very similar to the Vax, but a friend who borrowed ours preferred it to a Vax they had previously borrowed.

We bought ours refurbished, direct from the manufacturer, google Bissell Refurbished, they are surprisingly inexpensive.
