Unitiserve UPnp settings

Posted by: TN on 25 January 2014

Just acquired a used 1TB Unitiserve.

I already my collection ripped and stored on a Synology  NAS.  Because I have well over 2000 Cds, to make browsing easier, I have sorted them under "folders" -- A, B, C, etc.

I set the Synology as a network share on the Unitiserve.  Was able to see my collection but the UPnp settings only allow the main music views as "Albums" and "Artists."

Is there any way I can add "Folders" to the UPnP settings?

I don't think it's possible. But with all the nStream options I don't see why you'd need it.

No, n-Stream sorts by metadata tags; there is no view for the folders in the Store or Share.

Using Nstream with the Synology, I can browse by the folders set up in the NAS.  Just makes searching through 2000+ albums so much easier.

Have you looked at the settings in Desktop Client, Tools, Settings&Functions, Naim UPnP Server ?

That's where a lot of what can be seen is determined (although I see that 'folders' isn't one of the options), but you might find some other interesting views you'd never thought of !.

What Synology NAS are you using?  The Synology Media Server settings should allow you to customise the DMA menu style.  The Synology 'help' is very un-helpful about customisation of the menus but once i'd got the hang of it proved quite useful.  Once the Synology is setup (I restrict all searches to my FLAC folder) n-Stream allows me to view FLACs on the NAS grouped by album, artist, album-artist, genre, date etc. etc. (which is what Hungryhalibut is referring to) and then specify how files are then displayed as sub-groups, i.e albums within artists.  I can't comment on the Unitiserve aspects though.

I use the 1512+.  So my files are sorted alphabetically into folders -- A, B, C, etc.   So under "A" I can see Aimee Mann, Albert King, etc.  And if I select Aimee Mann, I see a list of all her albums.  I see all this in NStream.

Also, many of the "Various Artists" albums are grouped into a sub-folder within each of the alphabetical folders by type.  Eg.  I have a lot of Bossa albums and I group the ones with Various Artists into a "Bossa" sub-folder under "B".

A question about the Desktop Client.  Is this the same as Display Interface that I access via my web browser?  First day with it and finding my way around.

No the desktop client is a Windows application, to manage the userve but it also gives very good control over your Collection. grouped  by either artist, album, genre, composer or people. People Means many of the musicians playing on the albums.

You have a search possibility that can search for album, tracc, and a few more options. Very nice if you are using a windows machine.

If you are  using the Userve as a server and playing files through a dac,  n-serve is the app you have to use, unless you are  using the userve to serve files to a streamer.

I'm using the Unitiserve to serve files to a streamer (NDS).

Is desktop client only in Windows version?  Any Mac version?

TN --

The Mac version of DTC is called n-Serve, and is available in the Mac App Store (it's different from the iOS version of n-Serve).

Thanks.  I have downloaded the n-Serve and am using it.

It's really easy to edit albums in nServe. For example, I have given all my ECM albums a genre called ECM.

I've also separated vocal jazz from jazz, so if I want to hear a singer they are all together. So, say I have 200 vocal jazz albums, I go to that genre, this time in nStream. If I want to look at the Stacey Kent albums, I flick the main bit of the screen down and a search bar appears. I then type sta and they are all there. Alternatively, you can use the artist view.

It's very flexible and you'll find your preferred way to find things. I've found setting the genres very helpful though.
