Nas set up Question

Posted by: BPW on 27 January 2014

I am in the in the process of installing a Unitiserve SSD. I bought a Synology 213J to use for  my nas.

I ran the Naim  nas simulation software and it failed. The read time did not pass. Is this something that will affect the the use of US? If so what do I need to do ?

Also I am confused on the Us setup. I have read the Manual numerous times. I know i need to set up the nas as a music store, but when I open up the Naim Desktop Client the screen doesn't show where to do this. I looked under "tools" and could find the Synology but I don't see how to make it a music store. I am sure this pretty easy. what am I missing.

Try to make it look like Aleg's set up .

My home made NAS and SAN combination.

Based on SuperMicro, Xeon mobo and Norco chasis.

Free OmniOS that supports the superb ZFS filesystem with in-built error detection and correction and setup in RAID-5 groups.

3 x 12 cm fans between disc section and mobo section

2 x 12 cm fans exhaust from chassis.

Temp < 37 degrees.

All silent Noctua fans and virtually noise free.

Just the discs are humming on the background.

Plenty of space for extending capacity.

You've created a 'share' on the Synology, right?   So in DTC, Tools, Music Repositories click on Scanable Network Shares. You should see the share(s) you've created on the Synology - perhaps you named one 'Music Store'...  click on Activate and when it comes up as active (30secs?), click on Use as Store.

That's all there is to it, except perhaps make sure the share is either empty or contains files previously creted on a Naim server...  Happy days.

This process will also work on a NAS/SAN like Aleg's above, btw !
