Problems connecting to new router

Posted by: Geoff W on 29 January 2014

I'm trying to connect my Uniti to my new EE Bright Box 2 router. For some reason the wireless password is in three groups, separated by two hyphens, i.e. xxxxx-xxx-xxxx, and having toiled through the symbols available on the remote control find that there are at least three hyphens/dashes (two short, and one long) from which to choose. I've tried all three, but am still unable to reconnect. As everything worked fine previously, I assumed reconnecting would be straightforward. Can anyone offer any solutions, please? I've got the large wifi aerial fitted. I've re-tried connecting this morning, and other items near by are working fine.

Does the team think that if I can't connect to this router, could I use the old router, in parallel with the new one, if it means I can reconnect my Uniti, please?

Doesn't the Uniti have a WPS button?  (does the router?)

Not as far as I'm aware, Bananahead, neither device has a "search" button. All 4 phones, 4 laptops, Panny recorder, all connected without problems. Of coures, it may be that I'm inputting the password OK, and the fault lies elsewhere. I'm tempted to unplug the Uniti and move it close to the router.

I have a feeling that Uniti etc do not like wifi passwords with special characters like hyphens.

I have a wired network but have tried connecting Naim devices wirelessly on a couple of occasions to see how well they worked (out of curiosity), and they did seem to be overly sensitive to the characters in the password.  I never figured out definitely what was going on as I gave up on my experiement and plugged the ethernet cable back in.

But if that is the issue you will probably need to change the password on the router to a simpler one.  Or hard wire the Uniti into the network of course.

Just change the password in the router. If its EE though I would expect it to be a smouldering turd like their mobile service.

Ditch it and them as soon as possible.

Many thanks, it looks as if a password change will sort it.

The hyphens in my password were causing the problem. Might have been a good idea for Naim to either put a note in the manual to the effect that only numbers on letters are acceptable in passwords, (unless I missed it) or sort out their programming. I didn't expect this from such a high - end electronics company.

We have ee broadband, mainly because it's very cheap. Their supplied routers are a pile of crap though, so we use a DrayTek instead, which is excellent and very flexible.
