First Post in 7 Years!

Doesn’t time fly when listening to a Naim system! After some good advice from this forum, I’ve enjoyed my entry level Naim system for the past 7 years. I have Nait5i, CD5i and Arivas.

I recently decided to get into streaming and acquired a UQ2. I have this connected to my Nait5i via the pre-amp out into the tuner inputs on the Nait. I also purchased a Synology DS114 and have ripped all my cds with dbPoweamp to uncompressed FLAC.

I’m using the Synology Media Server to convert the FLAC to WAV when it plays the track. I’m not sure if I can tell any difference between FLAC and WAV but I thought I’d use this format as I understand Naim like WAV files!

I don’t have any Apple products so I can’t use Nstream, I have used Kinsky and Synology Audio Station running on a Windows laptop, everything works okay apart from the track names having ‘.flac’ after them when the NAS transcoded to WAV. If I turn the transcode off and send FLAC files to the UQ2 the track name returns to normal. Does anyone know how to get rid of this ‘.flac’ extension?

Thank you.

Thanks, the itch was a long time coming!

Over the past few weeks I’ve had demos of a few Naim systems. My favourite by far was the SuperUniti, Unitiserve and Ovator S400 speakers, I just could not believe how good it sounded. Unfortunately my wife could not believe the price! I then started to work my way down the streamer range until I reached the bottom. I thought I’d buy the Qute to get me started and If I liked it and everything worked, I may look at an upgrade and use the Qute in another room.

How wonderful to have enjoyed the same system so happily for seven years. I'm afraid I can't help you with the .flac extension, as I use a UnitiServe and SuperUniti (sorry!) so it's not an issue.

If you plan you use streaming as your main source - which should be a lot better than the CD5i - then I'd wholeheartedly recommend that you get hold of an iPad, as you can then use nStream, which is a delight to use and makes the whole experience so much better.

Of course, I'd also recommend the US/SU combo, which would be very happy with your existing speakers. Don't forget that you can pick these us as exdemo models from dealers at a good saving, and with a full warranty. There is something very satisfying about having everything in one nice black box.
