Any other members that need to share their problem - up late last night can't see me going to bed before two, one album leads to another Blackberry Smoke .. Pat Travers .. Tom Keifer ... now 'Tales From Topographic Oceans' !

Like it Tom !! Keep it coming any others? I knew the minute I put on the Yes album *kin fantastic!

Yes. I confess. It is somewhat of an obsession. But I do get very busy at work and spend protracted periods away from the main system. Although never far from a source of music. Over the course of a month it averages out. I hope I never lose my love of music or the ability to listen to/enjoy it. It's been one of few constants for as long as my memory stretches back. TFTO? Hmmmm. Come to think of it, it's been a month, maybe six weeks since.... Time to revisit I think.

The gateway for me was a Rega P3, nac 72, Hi Cap, nap180,  CDI and SBLs. Now it's one day at a time. But the thought of one more black box, another fraim level ... oh and if only there's a better inconnect. I know it will end with 800s and 3 x 500s then I'll be OK ... and then they make the statement!!!!

Kit-aholic too, two problems for my weekly meetings.

My name is Tony and I
also suffer the effects from this debilitating hobby.
Not my words but please read:

"The number one addictive disease in the world today, far more pervasive and dangerous than alcohol, tobacco and narcotic drugs combined is Music Addiction Disorder (MAD). Persons afflicted with this disease find it impossible to get on with their lives without a massive daily intake of "music."

For those unacquainted with the term, "Music" is a type of superfluous sound. It is not cogent human speech. Nor is it the mechanical noise produced by useful machines, like cars, microwave ovens and power tools. Rather, it is the sound generated by so-called "musical instruments," or even by humans using their own throats, voluntarily emitting meaningless noises rather than intelligible speech. Despite its meaninglessness, music is highly contagious and addictive, claiming new victims by the second in every country in the world!

Music has no practical use. It is sometimes referred to as a "diversion," because it can easily divert one's attention away from useful work. Overexposure to music can cause a person to lose all track of time, be absent-minded, hum to himself, and become increasingly self-absorbed. Persons afflicted with MAD may find it impossible to start the day, even to get out of bed, without first exposing themselves to music. MAD can cause a person to squander all his money on music-related products and activities, such as "recordings" and "concerts." In extreme cases, the victim actually plays a musical instrument, and devotes many hours to it daily, to the exclusion of all practical activity. Such victims have been known to go into a trance-like state while in the thrall of music, not emerging for hours. Even worse, "Second Hand Sound" generated by the instrument-user is highly contagious and can infect anyone within audible range. The dollar loss to national productivity due to instrumental MAD alone is incalculably vast.

Immediate steps must be taken. People need to be educated to the dire social, moral and monetary consequences of MAD. The public must be protected. In addition to a massive ad campaign, we are drafting a Constitutional Amendment to ban all music and to make production, distribution and use of "musical instruments" a felony. Stop the MAD-ness before it is too late!"

We're all doomed really but who cares?

Thanks for that Tony I tick all those boxes so am certifiable MAD

You been listening to 2112 Char? You have it bad!

Posted on: 07 February 2014 by Arun Mehan

Now that I'm finally happy with the hardware, I've been collecting music - mostly digital files. I have filled a 2TB hard drive but listened to probably less than 42% of the new stuff. MAD appears to be worse than upgraditis!

Arun

P.S. Hey, what's wrong with 2112?!

According to Tony's post I'm well and truly f**cking Mad.

Every Friday lunchtime I'm down to the market to see if any good LPs have turned up for me to buy. Today there were none! I'm now feeling let down and wondering if I should browse online.

Luckily I've beaten upgraditis, the Statement is beyond my budget. Or is it?   Oh I forgot the STA Din-XLR cables are coming tomorrow and I must call Peter to buy a new plinth and possibly a new top plate for the LP12. Arghhhh! I give up.

I know that I'm Mad, I've always been Mad.

So was Roger Waters my friend, and nothing wrong with that at our age, tehe !  See you soon Peter

I know Peter is as Mad as me and looking at the variety of music you post on here I think you are similarly afflicted Char.

Welcome to the Madhouse!

A fabulous book which deals with a myriad of near-unanswerable questions about music (including those stemming from Tony's point) is The Music Instinct by Philip Ball. If you haven't read it, I can't recommend it highly enough.

The sub-title and review snippet on the front cover are totally justified.

That sounds like some very interesting reading Mark. I'll see if I can get hold of a copy. Thank you for the recommendation.

Music is something i could not live without, but some days I simply listen to "PM" at 5 pm. then the Six O'Clock News, the comedy that followed, the Seven O'Clock Newsds anten then the "Archers,,, "

Then Bedfordshire calls.

Other times i get to six o'clock and stay up till the early hours listening to great music on Radio Three or from my library.

On those days, i suppose i must be musia-holic, or even an audio-aholic ...

Audio ain't a problem if you don't take it all too seriously.  Music is not a serious business.

Video shot and music recorded in my home town.  Some of us know not to take ourselves too seriously, except maybe the old guys who are clearly outraged.  Funny how no one else is.

Your missing the point Briz this is a light-hearted thread, perhaps it's lost in translation

Life without music ,wow what a concept? It has been tried in the past but without any long term success.

Not sure how I would fill my day without music. MAD, me? Definitely !

well, better to be a audioholic than a foodoholic, chocoholic and many others.

being an audioholic may deplete the bank balance, but won't clog the arteries

Good for the mental health, as well. I read (true story) that endorphins released during enjoyment of dedicated listening are the same as those while enjoying sex . No wonder audio can be addicting.

He's Ma Ma Ma Mad Sir!

Both Mad and an audioholic. My main substance of abuse is vinyl but I have been known to use large quantities of digital when I can't get my hands of the real thing.

One cross each, line on the left.....

Crucifixion is a doddle compared to being an audioholic
