Apple System and UnitiServe

Posted by: mcsucker on 19 February 2014

I have a fully wired system for streaming, including an iMac. I am not sure if my problem is Naim's or Apple!

I can stream music from the US but cannot add downloads to it as Finder either does not find the US or if it does will not display its folders, it does display as "connected". Once in a blue moon everything is OK!

Have tried powering off (properly!)m and on and do not know what else to do.

Advice from someone who knows a lot more than me about networks would be appreciated

I too have an all-Apple network, and the only issue I have is that once in a rare while my uServe disappears from the left-hand part of Finder (I think it's "shortcuts").  So I just go to the Go menu and re-connect to it.

Once you know its ip address, can you connect to it from the Go menu in Finder?

And excuse me for asking, but is it the 2tb hdd model of the uServe?

What version of Mac OS X are you running on your iMac?

To reply to DavidD and Bart

OSX is 10.9.1

I got the IP Address from the Fing app, went to the  Go menu and it would not connect to the server.

Strangely I could access the US wirelessly from my MacBook, but NOT yesterday when I tried it

The US is a 2tb version

You need to connect to server via smb, smb://yourserverip

Thanks but the smb comes up automatically by going from the Finder, Go menu, connect to server and then choose which server.

It is v annoying that sometimes access to the US Download folder can be done directly from the LH Finder list. It would be better if Naim allowed automatic back ups of the Download folder on the US. Currently I am copying any download  both to the US and my NAS drive. But perhaps I am doing it wrong!

I copy all downloads to both my nas and to the uServe Downloads folder.  And I backup the Downloads folder to the nas AND to a usb external drive.

Nothing wrong with multiple backups!

Randy I own that, and the green apple sits on my hi fi stand.  The only things allowed on the stand are the Naim black boxes . . . the remotes (which usually sit on top of the long-powered-off-and-unused-CD5XS), and that apple

I've copied the files over to the Downloads folder of my uServe, and play them from there.  With all the various Beatles releases since that set . . . I still prefer that set.  I am not nostalgic for how the songs sounded when I was listening to them in college, on the US-release vinyl.  They sound great in hi res from that set to me.

Ask Naim support to login to your system remotely through a browser, Phil is good at sorting  out strange Network issues.
