Seven billion people people and rising. An increasingly urbanised population. A general political view that food production should be as inexpensive as possible.

Result.

Like it or not, there is no other way.

We could rely less on animal farming.

We could but it is not going to happen as meat is an aspirational food for billions of people, and so the  current increase in industrial animal production will only continue, regardless of what we might do in the UK for example.

Exactly the same are is going on with fossil fuel consumption.

As a specie I'd say were are doomed, but not fortunately in my few remaining years.

The best we could do as a specie is to have a moratorium on breeding, and introduce laws on voluntary euthanasia for the old and terminally ill young.

Again that is not going to happen and is an abhorrent idea in any case.

Anyone who thinks that consuming organic and extensively [i.e. out-door] farmed food is going to make one jot of difference to increasing industrial animal production for food is living in lala land, I am afraid, though ...
