UPnP for Mac / NDX

Posted by: peez on 03 March 2014

Am going to purchase an NDX v shortly - need recommendations for Mac friendly UPnP software that will carry my files in full res, whether from iTunes or another location.

I was recommended Playback but it appears this is no longer available.....

any suggestions appreciated.

Great shame about Playback. One of, if not the best for the Mac. Good luck !

thank you - and was that with an NDX ? could it "see" your library on your mac?

Yes it was with my NDX.

With Elyric you can see and organize your library on your mac

great - thank you - have now downloaded it - do i need to load my music into it, or leave it in iTunes?

i am planning (at some point) in re-ripping the lot as WAV's as opposed to Apple Lossless but have an NDX on route to dem at home prior to ordering.

Peez, I find the JRiver Media. Center app works well on the Mac and provides UPnP capability for the NDX with a great interface and great playlist control. It also can act as an advanced control point to drive other UPnP servers driving the NDX (although does not control Naim automation). Media Center supports many file formats It can also read WAV metadata on an OSX platform which is a big plus.

BTW you don't need to rerip to create ALACs from WAVs, several programmes will do through lossless conversion including JRiver Media Center.

You can download Elyric for free (search with google).

With Elyric you can create as many libraries you want by leaving the files where they are so yes you can also use ITunes library leaving the files in the original position.

Obviously you can send the music directly from your mac to the NDX but you can also use N Stream on your iPad!

+1 on JRiver.  I'm running it as a control point on my Mac. Works great.

+1 on Jriver. Using it for my office set up to stream from the Vortexbox to my ac Pro. Works great, and the shuffle mode is fantastic (vs nStream but won't go there now).

I also use minimserver on the Vortexbox to serve up to the iPad for nStream for the main system. One of the few that transcode to WAV. Free and works great.

+73 JRiver!!!  Even in its Beta stage it is better than anything else regarding capabilites, and speed.  The GUI is the best.  Video support cometh.

I have JRiver 19 for Mac and am still using LMS.

Perhaps I should listen and try JRiver

I use Servio, and interestingly I am the only person on this site that I am aware of that has ever recommended this software.

It's free and works flawlessly.
