'The Byrd Who Flew Alone'

Thanks JN,
Hope they concentrate on the music rather than the personal side of the man and also that enough people tune in to make the producers realise that there IS a "market" for this type of Rockumentary.

Why? Clark had a fascinating - if not particularly happy - life. It is often very difficult to separate an artist's personal life from his or her work.
The film was made and shown in the US last year I believe, and has been bought by Auntie. The audience for this kind of programme in the UK is tiny - usually well under a million - but it is enough (and sufficiently loyal) to convince the BBC to make music docs the cornerstone of the BBC4 Friday night schedule for the past seven or eight years.
I shall put it on record.
Another gem of a programme from BBC4. Better to burn out than to fade away?
Gene Clark burned brightly in his relatively short life, and left us some wonderful music.
David Crosby was 'chilled and out there'. A great character. I want some of what he's on.
John.
What an interesting tale. I must admit Gene passed me by as a solo artist. Seemed a self destructive character but a sad tale nonetheless.
I think Davis Crosby has had his fill of stuff and now looks like his been fishing from some Cornish village.

I finally got around to watching the programme last night. I don't think GC was a particularly self destructive person as he survived a lot longer than many other musicians of his era. He was a man who just kept making the wrong choices. In fact David Crosby probably lived a more self destructive existence ending up with a liver transplant and gun charges. He obviously changed his ways after that. He really is a truly cool dude.
Thanks for recommending the programme John.
Self destructive in as much as knocking down his musical situations, not necessarily his life, although more than enough drugs were consumed I guess.
Really enjoyed the program. I did not know much about him other than he was in the Byrds. Just bought no other album on vinyl after watching. It's been reissued by MOV.
Thanks for heads up.
