Calling Wishbone Ash Fans

The first print run of the new album 'Blue Horizon' has apparently sold out and Amazon reckon to have fresh stock on 24th March. Link to WA web-site.

I was a real fan back in the early 70s. What's the current line up?

Hi Tom,

A 64 year old Andy Powell is the only original member left. Details on the WA web-site. Are you aware that there is a separate band called 'Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash' who produced the excellent 'Argus Through the Looking Glass' a couple of years ago?

Martin Turner left Wishbone Ash a very long time ago. He will tell you he was ‘forced out’; a phrase that usually applies to someone who has tried everything in the power to stay but still had to leave. Martin, didn’t hang around at all, at the first sign of change, he walked telling everyone what he thought of them.

Andy Powell was there on day one and has been there every day since. In recent years Martin Turner formed a new band and decided to call it Martin Turners Wishbone Ash. The one surviving member of the band, Andy Powell objected but Martin refused to change the name of his band.

Last year this resulted in Andy Powell V Martin Turner, a case that was conclusively won by Andy Powell. Martin tried several times to appeal but was ultimately refused the right to appeal by the appeals court. This means he can no longer call his band Martin Turners Wishbone Ash, reflecting the fact that he left a long time ago.

There has only ever been one Wishbone Ash, and that has now been reinforced by the courts.

Wishbone Ash were the local group who played at the church hall youth club in Hele village near Torquay before being discovered by John Peel whilst playing a gig in Exeter. I saw them many times and they were such a good live group with their banks of Orange amps. I was friends with Martin Turner's brother Kim who was quite a mean drummer.

Very interesting. I didn't know about Turner Ash, thanks. Worth to listen?

Yeah; I reckon Martin Turner's 'Argus Through the Looking Glass' is very good.

Okay; it ain't the original, but it's not meant to be. It shows off MT's superb bass playing (effectively another lead guitar) and is very well recorded and produced by modern standards.

Thanks John, will look for it. In the meantime I listen to Blue Horizon. It seems they started to act themselves, rather to bring just a bit of something new, but still very nice music. They seems to be more grown up in seventees than today. Other than this, regular modern WA. I really really like this band works from the seventees and it's a great thing they still exist in some recognisable form in order to make something in modern time which reminds on the old days.

Just got back from The Martin Turner gig(simply said Wishbone Ash on the tickets!) as I mention earlier it's the first time I've seen this outfit and they were superb. The lad on drums had, apparently, only joined the band 2 months ago and he was fantastic. Great show, an early inspection is recommended.

Prolonged encore was particularly good!

I had a disagreement once on a tour bus in the 70's with the band over an engagement. Heads up were their own ***** and it nearly came to a bit of fisticuffs.

Having said that Argus is probably in my Top 5 albums list of all time.
