Striving for gapless playback - redux

Posted by: quickben on 10 March 2014

As a newbie to the world of streaming, my disappointment on finding that my combination of Synology NAS and 172XS did not want to play nicely when it came to gapless playback was palpable. I joined the quest for this seeming holy grail with a number of other contributors and I shared their anguish and dashed hopes and when everyone rejoiced at 3.22 seeming to cure it - I remained puzzled why I could not achieve this. I even installed the Logitech Media Server app on DSM - but no dice with gapless.

Left it on the back burner but having just upgraded to the latest DSM 4.3 release I found some strange behaviours with all of the mappings, IP addresses and some of the workgroup permissions. Upshot is that while I cannot access the NAS via my desktop PC, I now appear to have achieved gapless playback using  nStream through the 172XS - albeit through the Logitech Media Server app package. DSOTM was a great pleasure

I'm also using a 172XS and a Synology NAS but the combination has always been able to do gapless playback. I have a Synology DS110+ with DSM 4.3 with Media Serve 1.1-2407, all controlled by N-Stream. All files are FLAC ripped from CD using dbpoweramp. All IP's are fixed for the 172XS and NAS. PC access to the NAS also works fine through the usual Win.7 explorer.
