Led Zeppelin Reissue News

Posted by: Steve C on 11 March 2014

Box sets, double vinyl, triple vinyl, deluxe CDs and more. Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II and Led Zeppelin III reissued on 2 June 2014.

Anyone else looking forward to these with trepidation knowing Page was involved with the remastering.

Those of you with the Classic records versions - is there enough oomph there to warrant all the fuss?

Yes the Classic Records versions are very good. I'm not sure if they are worth the going rate.

Yes, I have them all, including the BBC box. They are definitely worth seeking out, although they are not always worth the silly money people ask for them.

A cheaper alternative might be 1970s Japanese pressings - I think my Jap LZ1 shades the Classic equivalent, and the PG might be just as good.

A couple of years ago I returned an expensive copy of TSRTS on 200gm Classic because the quality was so poor; mis-centred hole, harpoon needle getting stuck into Moby Dick, and rather piß poor SQ anyway.

Apparently this is an only an occasional bad luck purchase with Classic and usually they are very good, all my other 200g Classic LPs are fine but none of those are LedZep, and like many say all LedZep later vinyl reissues are only poor digital remasters,

…and it looks like we’ve all gunna get conned again soon

Mutterback - what a beautifully worded, and possibly rhetorical question. I have most of the Classic Zep LPs and they are good, as we all know. I bought them after they were current, but at about half the price they seem to command now. Because I like Led Zep I needed decent versions of their records but I really did resent having to spend so much to get what should be normal quality sound. Its not as though they are a rare band. But the bulk of pressings are unsatisfactory, other than early ones which are outrageously expensive. Maddening. Is it really worth about £100 for an LP when you can pick up the CD for £5?

Similar argument with lots of LP actually, and I do wonder. Having said that I am very pleased to have a copy of Tokyo Day Trip on LP, which you rightly praise in another thread. And Kin has just arrived and waiting for a spin. Did you get a signed one?

I guess what I'm really wondering is if the original recordings are any good. Seems the answer is yes, but there hasn't been a good analogue release in a while.  Analogue Planet has an interesting new post here: http://www.analogplanet.com/co...-catalog-cut-digital

With my version of Kin I got a signed poster, not a signed album. would prefer a signed album cover. Next step for Nonesuch is high res downloads, which I don't think they offer for any of their albums. (They do offer CD quality FLAC) Every LP I've gotten from them -  Bjork, Wilco, Carolina Chocolate Drops - has been really well done. Looking forward to the new Nickel Creek.
