On the disc I've got it seems to have 3 audio formats pcm/2, English dts hd master/2 and English ac3 truehd/2 which is the format I need for 24bit/96khz?

My music is currently all Flac

Pcm/2 is what you need. If it is 96/24 should be mentioned on the cover.

ripping can be done with DvdFab

cheers

Try DVD audio extractor, I use this, plus Slysoft for the de-encryption (Windows only mind), works on all my BR-A disc and DVD-A I have about 30-40 now ripped to both 96/24 and 192/24, I still use WAV.

Interesting to know if anyone has new software examples that do the job always looking for new/better versions.

Hi, DVD audio extractor fails to install on my pc, it crashes at startup all the time, windows 7 64bit!

Posted on: 17 March 2014 by Dan43

Been flawless for me, currently Windows 8.1 64bit, it also works on Mac OSX, currently Mavericks 10.9.2 but Slysoft encryption is Windows only.

Not all DVD/BR discs need de-encryption.

I have had no problems with the software at all on multiple laptops/operating systems so sorry can't comment/help it has always just worked :-(

dvdae has free 30day trial, do you have another laptop you can use? I use external USB Blu-Ray drive also.

yeah I think its an incompatability issue with my LG drive, I don't have another :-(

I'm running Win7/64 with DVD Audio Extractor without issues. Sorry, not much help to you but it sounds like some conflict needs resolving.

You won't be able to rip until the disc is decrypted. I used DVD Fab Passkey for this job but there are plenty of alternatives.

Ditto...using exactly the same method successfully here as well.

Many successful BluRay conversions completed (to 24/96).  Last rip was of Muse's live at Rome Olympic Stadium (video BluRay), however with no track subdivision, I've ended up with a monster file (over 4 Gb!), that plays superbly direct from NAS (UnitiServe doesn't recognize this file size), as long as you want to listen to it all in one go.

Looking to get the Genesis 'Selling England by the Pound' audio BluRay....on my Amazon birthday wish list!

I've heard tell, although I don't know for certain, that the BD Audio release of SEBTP is the same mix as the SACD and not for the faint hearted. In a perfect world one might be inclined to hang back for a decent remaster, if dieing first of old age is not a medium term concern!

Hi George,

I have used Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net) to edit a single ripped FLAC file into individual tracks. You introduce Labels to the file, at the correct time markers, these are sometimes listed in the Chapter information on the Blu-Ray or you can Google them & then adjust by ear, to get the correct transition between tracks. Then you extract by Label into Multiple files, introducing Metadata (Artist, Album etc) in the process. Once you have the individual files you can manage them with mp3tag or dbPowerAmp EditID to complete the Tagging (Album Artwork, etc)

Can be a little fiddly, but worth the attention on the Label positioning.

Thanks for the advice on the Genesis BRD Harry - useful to know.  Don't have an SACD player, however may explore to see if on any of the HD sites.  No guarantee however, as it could still be a bad transfer or upsampled CD quality!

Thanks for the tip on Audacity (to split up file into component tracks) Simon - will explore further.

Possibly a stupid question but are Blu Ray audio discs region encoded?

Possibly. The whole DRM on Bluray is a mess. I'm not surprised that the OP is having some difficulty extracting the hi-res audio.

Music BluRays are Region 0. BluRay Audio? No idea. If you look at a listing on e.g. Amazon you might get the info. I have successfully ripped a BluRay disc containing PCM tracks but this wasn't a BluRay Audio disc. Forums like Computer Audiophile will contain information and tips.

Harry's absolutely correct - most music discs are not coded (e.g. Region A, B, etc), however I believe programs such as DVDFab are 'agnostic' to region coding, and therefore gives a mechanism to rip 'differently coded' BD discs.

Buy music from HDTracks, Linn, Naim, Ponostore etc. instead on throwing money in physical discs that have to be perfectly ripped to sound good

Posted on: 18 March 2014 by Dan43

Not all of it is on HDTracks and from the UK it 'aint so easy to get them.

This is my hope. Initially BR-A material was recycled and for all I know still is (from SACD)? As time goes on perhaps we'll see some or more unique releases that are not available through other outlets. I'd love to think it's about getting more high quality music into peoples' homes as opposed to a greater volume of the same stuff in different formats.

The HDT block can be got around. It's a question of if the cost to do so can be justified. It cost me about $50 IIRC and for my needs it's been worth it. I expect you can do it for nothing. I tried a couple of proxy freebies but they didn't work - or maybe I didn't configure them properly.

ok, back to dvdfab, the only version of the 3 "codecs" of music I can rip is this "English dtd hd master/2"

but the program only lets me rip this at 48000 hz and 192kbps, what am I missing here, this surely isn't "Hi-Rez" ?

Use DVDFab to copy the BD/DVD disc to your PC hard drive.  (This removes any region coding, etc).

Then use DVD Audio Extractor to extract from the copy on your hard drive.  (I believe the first 30 days of use for DVDAE are free).  Most of my BD rips are 24 bit 48KHz (don't think current version of DVDAE rips higher).

Harry mentions use of DVDFab 'Pass Key' - think this allows you to rip direct from BD to WAV/FLAC with DVDAE without making deprotected BD/DVD copy on the hard drive?

(Ripping directly from BD/DVD to WAV/FLAC with DVDFab gives the issues you describe).

Hope helpful?

Wishing you success!  George.

Hi George, thanks for the advice, ive got passkey making a copy of the disc to my hard drive, can you recommend any other good extraction software other than DVDAE, as I mention before I cant this to run on my machine!

Posted on: 20 March 2014 by surfer

Wow finally DVDAE, installed correctly, and now I have my perfect rip! and my first hearing of 24bit audio on my unit2!....sounds good!...thanks for the help and advice!

Posted on: 20 March 2014 by Harry

Hi George, DVD Audio Extractor's fine at ripping 24/192. I've a copy of the BluRay Pure Audio "Modern Cool" by Patricia Barber & this ripped without problems.
