Spotify

Hi all.  I keep looking at the forums thinking that someone will have finally figured out how to stream spotify to a unitiqute / uniti from a mac, iPhone, iPad...but no.  Nothing yet.  Did I miss something or is this still a dead end???  Please no comments on 'naim doesn't do low bitrate streaming, etc, etc.'  I just want to listen to music.

Evening TJ1901,

I currently stream Spotify via my iPad through my AppleTV to my ND5 streamer with reasonable results, although I am not with their premium service.

1. Install the Spotify app on the Mac

2. Connect the Mac to the Uniti via optical cable

3.  Install the SpotRemote Helper app on the Mac and SpotRemote on the iPad.

Results are excellent with Premium service.

I use a western digital live tv box to stream spotify to my uq2, I use the digi out and it works fine. Dirt cheap to buy too

three options I've used (into an NDAC, but should be the same)

1) Toslink from the mac into the DAC. Get a toslink mini > standard cable. Connect to headphone out on mac into toslink in.

2) same (toslink mini > standard) from an airport express or apple TV. Use the airplay option on your mac sound controls.

3) from an iPhone or iPad into the from usb plug in the NDAC. Not sure if this applies to the 'Qute

Hi,

I use the Airport Express.

No wires, all Apple systems compatible (even Android through UPnP player).

Make sure you download a Pre-2013 Apple Driver for the Airport Express as the new ones prevent wireless linking for Music.

Have fun.

Buy a Sonos Connect and plug it in your UQ through the coax cable. Then you can control the music through  Ipad/IPhone etc. so you can keep your Mac to stream Hi Rez Music

TJ,

As an Apple hater my suggestion is:

Use a linux laptop.

Buy a HiFace.

Load up the linux drivers.

Stream from your laptop > HiFace > UQ spdif input.

Works well, although you can here the poorer nature of the Spotify free service. Works well enough for me to know whether I want to buy something.

I use AppleTV controlled by Ipad using Airplay into NDAC via a Toslink.

However you do hear the limitations of the premium Spotify lossy compressed sound.. Ultimately  its not that attractive on a quality system. I find Qobuz sounds significantly better with their lossless FLAC streams.

I use a iPad connector to phono lead connected to my unitiqute when playing music on spotify.  Although it doesn't charge it works really well

The iPad or iPhone into the Apple USB connector on the NDAC work very well indeed and sounds preferable to using AppleTV's TOSLINK output - at least works with Qobuz - so it it will probably also work with Spotify.

I agree with Simon, but find the Mac Mini connected via optical to be better, if that option is available.

Very frustrating that Naim can't give us any update on the Spotify connect support already once announced. I would have purchased a Sonos Connect to package with my NaimUniti2 already for a decent, remote controlled streaming experience,  but now hesitate as I would hate to waste my money just to learn that the Spotify feature came out right after. I only have to assume that Naim would have informed if they made a decision to withdraw from the Spotify support after the announcement. Now they only pulled back the announcement, which indicates more towards just a wrong timing for the announcement.
I love the sound of my system, but the overall user experience includes everything, including Naim poor communications I'm referring here as well as my frustration that nobody seems to handle the feedback sent through the iRadio website (for forgotten password).

I'm currently connecting my iPhone 5S to the NAC82 with a cheap-as-chips 3.5mm > DIN cable for Spotify purposes.  I am looking for a compatible dock to enable me to connect it and bypass the headphone socket, but can't find anything?

Andrew

The Arcam rDock-uni has a lightning connector and DAC. It should be a nice upgrade on the mini jack  cable.

I tried one plugged into coaxial digital input on the NDS but it wouldn't sync properly and sounded terrible. However, that wouldn't be an issue plugging into the 82 at line level.

As an 'Airplay' type solution try an app called 'Music Flow'. I have had a little success with it.
