Naim New Prices... 2014

Posted by: Tony2011 on 26 March 2014

It looks like that from  April 1st prices will be rising by an average of 4%, according to several unofficial sources,  so put in an order before that if you want to secure a good deal.

I've heard that some dealers have large stock rooms. For those looking to beat the price rises but do not have the funds yet, you may wish to speak to your dealer and put in an order that you will pay for later. Please note that you'll need to have a good rapport with your dealer ^_^

Or wait a year.

For what?

Posted on: 26 March 2014 by Plinko
why should a price increase motivate a purchase when it occurs annually?
Posted on: 26 March 2014 by Plinko

If one wants the item and wants it now, then by all means get it now...that is a different motivation.

But a price increase as a motivation to buy?  I can keep my money and get that same pre April 1 "effective price" months later, or 364 days later if being conservative.

Now if Naim increased prices randomly then perhaps the "buy it now before the price increase concept" would hold more weight.

Keep in mind I don't have any issues with the annual price increases...Naim make great products and company values are first class.

Well, if you were planning on getting something soon anyway, might as well get it March 31st rather than April 1st.

Agreed

I'd think ANY reason to buy into the naim world is a good one - will the poster prices go up, too?

(:

It looks like the April 2014 price list is available. The Ovator S-400 and Nait XS2 seem to be the ones taking the big jumps - up by +8,2%. And the Ovator S-600 up by 12%...

I also note that there is no longer a mention of a satin white finish option for the S-400 (but it remains there for the S-600).

Presumably, "trade in" prices will rise accordingly!

Apart what Teme mentioned above there seems to be a quite hefty increase in the price of SuperLine (+15%) and although I did not calculate it there is a feeling that the local price increase is higher than the 4% average in UK. Double digit increases have not been rare in recent years here so this not something new.

^ I can only see a +4,1% increase in the SuperLine price?

Inflation, what inflation?

That's interesting. On the UK price list I see £2050 -> £2135.

It's due to the exchange rates between the Euro and Pound.

I'm not quite sure I understand what the exchange rate has to do with this? The price increase in euros is 15,4% while the UK price only increases by 4,1%.

Presumably, the local distributor sets prices?

If current FX rate, the difference in VAT rate and freight (10%?) is taken into consideration the "correct" price in this example would be 2930€ (so there would be 2% air in the price).

... and of course the local distributor sets the price. Maybe they saw that the previous price was set at too low level.

(Teme, for some reason I assumed that you were taking about the local price, so my mistake in commenting your original post)

The UK recovery has gained momentum and inflation has returned to the 2% target.

I would assume that the freight was factored in the prices also before the latest price increase, so it should not be a factor, imo. The exchange rates have moved less than 2% over the past year, so that does not explain a difference of more than 11 percentage points in the increase. And I assume the VAT rates in the respective countries have not moved significantly in relation to each other, either? I guess if one looks at the relative price of the SuperLine compared to other Naim products, it was - as you noted - perhaps previously priced too low in the euro area compared to the UK...

Btw, I just noted the new prices here in Finland as well. And guess what, the SuperLine has gone up from 2590€ to 2990€. I'm happy to have bought mine just over a month ago

You are correct the freight, FX and VAT are not factors in the price increase (or the effect is minimal). I was just making an example calculation what the current "correct price" should be. Seeing the results of KR in the recent years there might have been some pricing errors in the past (among the other problems).

I got my SL in last December and I am also glad that I did since the current price might have turned me off.

4%, consider yourself lucky! In my neck of the woods (Canada), the increase is 15%. My dealer phoned me 2 weeks ago (he knew I was planning to buy gear later in 2014) and warned me to buy before April 1st if I could. The canadian dollar has come down a lot, so the prices have to increase.

I was planning to get a Stageline and possibly a CD5si. I will still get the Stageline, but the CD5si just went off of my list. I might buy a used CD5i instead.

I don't blame Naim. It just is very unfortunate that prices increase much more than inflation (about 2.5 to 3% in Canada last year). My salary has also gone up 15%... In the last 6-7 years!

What will be the new price of the dac v1 and UQ2 be?

Posted on: 28 March 2014 by analogmusic

I find this "annual" price increase rather annoying and ridiculous

wages are not going up.

And inflation is very low.

What's the justification?

I'd like to see prices coming down a bit, or to see more value for money.

Luckily maybe Naim amps are unique, but speakers and sources are a dime a dozen.

Pay 8 % more for the ovators? Forget it.

there is something called demand and supply

nowadays the price of the FRAIM compared to launch price is so high, how long will demand be there at these elevated prices?
