MUSIC FILES

Posted by: Hvs on 01 April 2014

Hi everyone, I have discovered that the music files I have downloaded into my NAS from my CDs do not show the different categories, ie, genre, album, song, on the Ipad app, instead, they all go into a folder and everything is sorted by artist. Another problem is that, after having downloaded the new app version, the system does not show the album information as it should. Any ideas?

Hi Hektor

Not sure i fully understand your issue, but i use a free app to make sure all my albums are tagged correctly before downloading to my NAS. its called MP3Tag. Its a great little app. I think it may only work on Windows and does not load wav files. Have a go see if it helps

Hektor, those categories (genre, album name, song name, etc.) are typically stored within the music file itself as "tags" or "metadata."  You will not see the info when looking at folders and file names.  In fact, the folder names and file names on your hard drive have nothing to do with the metadata.

If the files on your nas do not include the metadata, you can add it with programs such as dbPoweramp, Tag for OS X, etc.  But maybe it's there and you just aren't seeing it?

How do you play your files?  Do you use a UPnP server?  What "app" are you referring to?  Plenty of folks here to help you sort it out.
